Are these people necessarily fans, though? The strategy seems to be to sell 007 as a luxury brand, only tangentially related to the actual books and films. This sort of abstract branding is not unique to Bond. I once bought some Harley Davidson aftershave, despite never having ridden a motorbike in my life.

True..I checked the usual places *cough* MI6*cough* and not a word..so yeah..probably IS just the average person with forget-you money..and lots of free time.
Well, there are plenty of challengers, but only one James Bond.
(Edit: sorry, I realise that might come across as a bit sycophantic. All I meant is that there have been a lot of Bond imitators over the years, but an imitation is never quite the same as the original, even if the original is past its best.)

Oh ffs...I can't post a link, because it's hidden behind a paywall, but my mum had a print copy of today's (London) Times, and they're reporting that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is "in talks" (that phrase again) to write and direct the next Bond film. The same Phoebe Waller-Bridge who said that most of her suggestions for the last film were rejected. I had to check the date to make sure that it was today's paper and not Saturday's.

She will ruin Indy 5 and if involved in another Bond film she will ruin that as well. Broccoli hates men in charge it seems and could go woke on the franchise. The source reportedly added: “Everyone adored working with her. It’s very early days, but Barbara has been quite open about saying Phoebe would be her first choice to direct and co-write the next film.” ------https://www.nme.com/news/film/bond-fans ... lm-3425761 What a baloney and biased Broccoli directed headline!

Waller-Bridge's publicist working overtime, none of this smacks true especially the tweets from "the fans" championing it.

Especially as her only director credit on IMDb is the video for Savior Complex by Phoebe Bridgers. And I doubt even that, given that it's become a standing joke the number of people who get the two mixed up because of the similarity of their names. Even if the credit is correct (Bridgers could have been leaning into the joke by asking Waller-Bridge to direct), it's a big leap from directing one music video to directing a big-budget action movie.

As for who'll replace Craig after the actor bowed out of the franchise with 2021's No Time to Die, McWilliams insisted that the search is YET TO BEGIN in earnest. "There's no conversation being had at the moment. [Series producer] Barbara Broccoli has been heavily involved in other projects. You know, it's not unusual for there to be quite a big gap between different Bonds, it has been known to have a five-year gap. So, no, nothing."-----what other projects? Years gap? What the hell is going on here? No bond films until 2030?
Yes, and five years from when? NTTD has already been shown on network TV here, because the date of first broadcast was calculated from when the film was *supposed* to be released. There was a 6-year gap between Dalton and Brosnan, but that was because of MGM's legal wrangles. If it hadn't been for that, Dalton probably would have made a third film in 1991 or '92 before handing on the baton.

Absolutely, nothing is going on, which is a joke in itself, but that is an entirely different story. All these "scoops," "exclusives" and "news items," are are so far fetched they feel like perpetual April fools gags. There is absolutely no validity to them, at this point I'd take the "bookies" rumors more seriously than any Phoebe Waller-Bridge story.

Why bother going to all the trouble of making a movie when you can just make your money selling Bond-themed holidays to rich folks?
