If this 'old Bond' would be sir Roger Moore why not? But it should be additional series (James Bond 20 years later ), so the franchise could be normally continued.

I think it's a terrible idea.

The only reason Bond has survived for 40-odd years is precisely because Bond was never old (forgetting the way the actors looked in DAF and AVTAK). Bond was timeless - hence why he has survived so long.

Bond is not, never was and never will be, Indy Jones who is now old, or John McClaine, or a retired Rocky Balboa, or an ageing Rambo. These franchises are played by the same actor, and the story/timeline reflects this.

Bond doesn't. Fleming never wrote him that way (with exception to certain parts of YOLT and TMWTGG), and Cubby never saw Bond that way either.

As soon as Bond grows old, the franchise ends.....

Bond is timeless. Although continuity issues are improtant (and the reboot, start from the beginning is unforgivable for me) they aren't fundamental.
I had no problem with having 57 Sir Roger in AVTAK and then considerably younger Timothy Dalton in TLD, so I suppose I wouldn't have it
either with the film showing Bond nearing the career and then again Bond in his prime in the next picture. Especially if this old Bond would be played by such a fine actor as Brosnan. The only problem is that Borsnan doesn't look anything like he was at the end of career. Quite the opposite in fact.
Maybe it's a little bit cruel but I really would like to see a picture of Craig in the same age. And then compare it to those pictures of Brosnan.

I agree. I think the only way they could get away with it is to set it in the future and declare it non-canon, a la Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.

Eon are looking to be radical, so maybe they could have a one-off film in their canon with an older Bond about to retire. The Eon series would then be like Lost - we would know what happened at the start and end of Bond's career!

I think Bond should be played by actors from their mid 30s to their late 40s. Anywhere beyond is too old, and quite frankly so is Brosnan.

I disagree. It isn't just his age that I think would hamper down the role.

Did you see the photos at the beginning of this topic? With good light and prepared to work in front of the camera he looks fantastic. Just a matter of make up, which sadly doesn't work with Craig anyway...

The way he plays the role. Like Moore, he plays Bond as a pompous babyfaced smooth operator as opposed to what Connery, Dalton and Craig have portrayed: Ruggedly handsome and dangerous with an edge. Brosnan certainly lacked that edge, in my opinion. He could probably pull it off to an extent, but that would be yet another inconsistency for his Bond. New blood was needed, and Craig was the man EON was looking for.

Nah, all 5 gang up on the obvious steriod powered bad guy. Connery "Christ looks like the guy From Russia with Love." Moore "Check his teeth!" Dalton "He's no Milkman thats for sure!" Lazenby would mumble something (dubbed in of course) and for some reason he'd rip out his pockets and place them on his hands. Since Craig's spy likes cell phones so much Brosnan would toss the cell phone to him and say "here you go Mr. Stamper Recall, 3, Send."

Or he tosses a cellphone to Craig's Bond that isn't made by Sony Ericsson, and he screams and drops it, looking at the large cellphone shaped burn mark on the palm of his hand.

In physical terms, Craig will surely win. That's what he's supposed to be: a former WWE star conscripted into British service. He'll just used his musclebound arms to break his enemies' neck. But of course the other bonds are more witty: I'm not sure with Moore, but the other Bonds use anything they see and grab to slow down their much physically powerful opponent. Connery will use chairs, table lamps; Dalton would pour gasoline to his enemy first before throwing him a lighter. Brosnan would throw metal chains or push book cabinets.
