EON research shows Craig popular worldwide.

TALK ABOUT BONDED! Here's some additional scoopage you will not have read about the mega-deal just inked by Daniel Craig, which commits him to the James Bond franchise and the next four "007" flicks for the next decade. Craig stands to make even more than the $60 million that's been touted as his pay package for agreeing to the lengthy deal. My sources tell me it could net the actor as much as $100 million, based on the box office performance of those upcoming Bond pictures.

Here's the interesting thing: The Bond producers reportedly shelled out nearly $100,000 in intricate market research, checking all aspects of his appeal and popularity in a number of key international markets, including China, India and Latin America -- as well as Europe and the United States -- before signing the Craig contract.

Clearly, Craig scored big across the board.

He's made Bond unwatchable for me. It's strange - I seem to like things that are unpopular and hate things that are popular.

Like Craig, Kenny G is popular in public, and many jazz fans hate him.

I wouldn't compare Craig to Kenny G. He's more like a manufactured band that is marketed as being "edgy" and "alternative" but which somehow sells as many albums as the latest boy band du jour, bought by millions of impressionable teenagers who all think they're "expressing their individuality" by liking them.

Bond is a star and will always put a certain number of bums on seats. As far as Craig goes I'm not convinced he's a leading man let alone a star. It would be interesting to see him play the leading role in a commercial non-Bond film to see if he has any clout whatsoever without the 007 brand and a Eon/Sony bullsh-, I mean PR campaign.

Going off-topic, I wish someone had conducted extensive market research before they gave Steve Maclaren the England job.

Where was all this research when they were talking about hiring him???

I might be more impressed if we could see the actual data. "Clearly he scored across the board" is an assumption on the writer's part. I bet there was room for interpretation.;)

Obviously they were not too surea bout it, spending 100 grand to verify what they think they knew (or did somebody else ( cough, Sony, cough) have doubts?) I wonder if Craig was talking about walking and if that prompted the renegotiation. Personally I don't see bond 22 doing better than CR. (not counting the inflation BS)

Did they have a option for other actors in the role, I bet that be interesting :D

Good for him -DC is a good actor

If DC doesn't want to stay longer in the role, why the hell is EON giving him 4 more Bonds?

Eon has too. More specificaly Barbara B has to. If she does anything but she risks looking weak and she has to show the fans unhappy that she dosn't care. Well somebody cares or else they wouldn't have spent 100 grand on surveys.
It's not Craig's fault but she handled things very badly from his introduction to the pretenses and earlier promises that Brosnan would be back.

If bond 22 fall flat then look for change in tone.

IMO there are deeper troubles at eon that this mess is only the tip of the ice berg. If teh truly had no direction for 4 years until Batman reborn inspired them then they have either go no business in show buisness or needed new writetrs.

They got a new writer. Unfortunately, it was Paul Haggis.

Yes, Unfortunately

I hated Haggis's lines and additions to teh script. Some self procalmed purest now complain about a few of the one liners that could make you cring and d**n it those sappy crap lines in CR were teh worst by far. If I wasn't a fan of Bond and saw the last film alone I'd never take that joker seriously talking like he does.

I can't believe that Eon's market research told them Craig would be a popular Bond in the summer of 2006.

The man was a laughing stock when he was cast as James Bond.
