Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
The racist and sexist thing is more applicable to TFA and Rogue One. Both were subject to protests by the alt-right; the former because it introduced Finn and Rey, the latter because the bad guys were based on "very fine people". Whilst TLJ is no better from the point of view of a 4chan Nazi, I haven't noticed much of that line of protest this time around.

You know I don’t remember that alt right protest but I don’t pay attention to those asshats anyway.Kristatos wrote:The racist and sexist thing is more applicable to TFA and Rogue One. Funny I remember the racist cry’s over Lucas portraits of aliens. Which they had a point.

Never understood the hate for Rogue One. It's the first Star Wars I went to see and the first to see in the franchise, and never had a problem with the female protagonist. It never felt like Felicity Jones carried the whole film. All of them were given the right parts and never understood the comparisons on the "very fine people". Alt-Right should just shut up and sit down. Then again, so should BLM, SJW and far left. I personally thought Rogue One was a decent film and served greatly as a prequel to A New Hope.

I was thinking of making the photos larger and the 007s' smaller. I was not a fan of the last logo however since I am no good at photo editing the old logo lingered.Count_Lippe wrote:

Having just seen the logo on my PC for the first time, I would agree with this decision.Goldeneye wrote:I was thinking of making the photos larger and the 007s' smaller. I was not a fan of the last logo however since I am no good at photo editing the old logo lingered.Count_Lippe wrote:

BJ, are you planning on seeing your top 2005 Bond choice Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman? I know Mrs Kristatos wants to see it. The reviews have been a bit lacklustre, but she does like her musicals (and Hugh Jackman).

No. I wanted him as Bond. These other films do not get my attention........where is the SW review by our FBF already? B.O.M. has it down 62% this weekendKristatos wrote:BJ, are you planning on seeing your top 2005 Bond choice Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman? I know Mrs Kristatos wants to see it. funny. Probably the same guys who rushed out to defend BvS, QOS and King Arthur legend of the sword. Oh and Indiana Jones and the crystal skull.Kristatos wrote:Spotted on Facebook:

For build up to a new hope except for the creepy cgi dead guys it was not bad, for a non Jedi movie it was good, imho better cast than TLJ.John P. Drake wrote:Never understood the hate for Rogue One. Big problem with rogue one is two directors and change of tone. First half the heroin is tough and jaded last half she is bubbling optimism ready to do the impossible because she believes, so d**n plucky they give her rogue one as a made up call sign.
I think that works in that setting of not being the main saga. Maybe these young director all want to make empire strikes back go for dark and imposing without noticing there is a balance. Kind of striking Disney after TFA makes two very similar films l, I’m not too
Hopefully for Solo at this point.
I’m going to see TLA again with family over the holidays at least once more, maybe it’ll have a few nuances that save it. But I still think this guy was fine as director but as a writer he was too eager for the new characters ignoring the ensemble cast. He had point B in mind not really caring the route he took from point A was wrong.

I may be one of the very few people who didn't mind the CGI Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher. I actually loved those and applauded them for effort.

I don’t mind the idea of using images of deciders actors with their families permission, it is just the animated images are slightly off.

True, there's no argument from me on the front that they did look weird and out of place. But, in cases like these I'm more forgiving than the others, which is why when it comes to Die Another Day parachute surfing scene, I don't mind the CGI they used for it, as bad as it looks.Omega wrote:really? I just like the idea of seeing Peter Cushing again, and applaud them for the effort to stay true to the original actors rather than recasting them in the same continuity/timeline.

This guy sums up all I find wrong with Last Jedi, it does have spoilers so avoid this article if that’s a concern.

Guess what bothers me the most right now is the thought police push to negate any contrary views to the positive spine, like we experienced with Skyfall, CR, Superman Returns, Indy & kingdom of the Chrystal Skull, BvS, pisses me off even more because it’s not thought police who believe they’re right its stooges helping the studio machine hit the profit points.
Before TLJ first month is over, my guess is right after New Years holiday is over the narrative will turn. Just a cynical guess

Well, it's a shame the maker of the meme had to put that "your equally stupid dad" bit in, because most of the meme was simply arguing that most of the criticisms of The Last Jedi could also be applied to The Empire Strikes Back. There was no need for name calling.
In fact, my reaction to ESB was very similar to that when I first saw it on its initial release (I would have been around 13 at the time). Darth Vader is Luke's father? They just leave the movie there, with Han frozen in carbonite? It was only after Return of the Jedi was released that I could see why they made those decisions. I thought TLJ ended far more hopefully than ESB did.

Happy Christmas. I have a copy of Craig's latest blockbuster Lucky Luke for all the forum members.
P.s I have to be careful reading this thread as I have not seen the latest Star Wars yet!

You know that’s a big difference I never experienced Empire as the last movie in the series return of the Jedi was alway there as the last film.Kristatos wrote:Well, it's a shame the maker of the meme had to put that "your equally stupid dad" bit in, because most of the meme was simply arguing that most of the criticisms of The Last Jedi could also be applied to The Empire Strikes Back. I get that it might be shocking in 1980, but it didn’t directly piss on the previous movie and answered a few cliff hangers from the last movie leaving the audience excited to find out what happens next. Maybe I’m wrong cause I first experienced star wars as a trilogy.
[spoil]In last Jedi if each of the characters need to be where they are in the end for episode 9 I’m fine with it, the way Rian Johnson wrote the story is very lacking and thoughtless of the ramifications to the SW universe. He built up tension by building to to scenes most Star Wars fan know what to expect to go the opposite way just for shock value which only last a moment for the first viewing.
I do not think this installment will age well. It’s a well made movie but the aspects we’ve talked about I feel fails in storytelling. I will leave it there until I see this movie again.[/spoil]
