Will Craig keep up the bodybuilding?

Post by carl stromberg »

Will Craig continue with the Stallone/Arnie look? Or wil he get bored with all the training and go for a more normal looking Bond as he gets older, maybe returning to Bond the normal spy?

I really hope he keeps the body-building up. It was one of the reasons why he was so believable as Bond. Watching out-of-shape Moore, Brooza, slim Dalton and overweight Connery in DAF now looks pathetic compared to the figure Craig cuts in CR.

I thought Craig looked better at the press conference. God knows what all the body-building was about.

Needs to tone down a little. The body building was too much over compensation. The point was to prove he is tough guy. Hes done it now he can move on.

Seeing Brosnan coming out of capture looking well fed was one of the many problems of Die Another Day. Craig worked out even before Bond, as can be seen in previous films like Layer Cake and Tomb Raider, his muscular body in Casino Royale worked well for Bond, especially when you read Bond's work outs in the books.

1st point PB was in excellent shape for all of his Bond movies. Your imagination is running away with your pro-craig feelings.

2nd point is Thunderball. Bond was out of shape in the books. He curses himself for being such a Bas***d. He starts exercising in OHMSS so he can survive the escape attempt.
Bond does not have gym membership and does not work out regularly. Fleming’s 007 is just a average guy.

Bond was unfit in TB only, and M soon saw to put that right.

Why did the KGB see Bond as a nasty, tough-looking customer in FRWL if he loooked like average Jo Public walking down the street?

in the books more than once Bond is puffing for breath. I don’t remember where it can be found maybe somebody without CRS like me can list the books. :)

My point was he was never in good shape, not by today’s standards to be sure, but average for the 40’s-50’s. Which wasn’t all that healthy.
Connery was over fit for Bond. Fleming had wanted some average people in the role who would not have been athletic like Sean.

With that said craig could go back to regular workouts with out the steroids ;)

In Thunderball Bond had let himself go, but before that Bond was shown in his flat working out.

I always laff when I read of Bond's workouts in the books. If I recall, he would do a few repetitions of exercises (around 20 for press-ups) and then stagger into the shower, winded. Remember, this is a guy who wheezes thru 60 cigarettes a day, plus lots of hard bottles

My vote : Bond should not have a beefy gym-body. Otherwise, Arnold or Stallone can play him.
You move very well for a dead man, Mr Bond

I agree. Thankfully Craig doesn't have a body like Arnold or Sly.

DC's physique is not something you can obtain from gym work alone. You need a structured diet, balanced with the right muscle building 'assistance'. i.e. creatine, protein shakes etc....

His physique did not irritate or annoy me in the film though.

Funnily enough, this happened towards the end of Fleming's life, when his health was rapidly going downhill. From TB onwards, what was happening to Fleming began to creep into the novels.

Yet during the early novels, we were led to believe Bond was very fit and healthy.

Wasn't this when all he was doing was tracking Blofeld, which meant he wasn't keeping himself in top shape.

Yes indeed. Bond’s arc closely followed Fleming’s in terms of health and mental attitude.
CR featured Fleming’s own reluctance to marry.
In YOLT the decay in Fleming’s health was clear.

However to my recollection of the early books Bond was healthy/fit, but not overly so. And the books always tended to test Bond to physical extremes.

Strange, YOLT had another naked, genitals at risk, torture session. Wonder this said about Fleming ;)
