An article on Robbie Williams,who had great hopes on playing Bond;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/1292242.stm

some quotes:

Debbie McWilliams, who has cast six James Bond movies, including the last three, said he was not right for the part.......She said a Bond had to be "devastatingly handsome, incredibly fit and available".

I can only guess that Debbie was sacked before Eon chose Daniel Craig!!!!

I think Eon and sony talked a lot of rubbish in the lead up to the casting of Craig.

Robbie Williams was suggested as a theme song singer for CR - it was probably his agent who started the rumour.

I seem to recall Williams himself saying for a long time that he wanted to be Bond, and EON effectively saying "don't be silly".

Robbie would perfect as the next unofficial Bond.

So let me get this straight. Your idea of a great non-EON Bond film would star Robbie Williams, be directed by Uwe Boll and have music by Kenny G? Sorry, but I think I might give that one a miss if it ever came to pass.

I'd look forward to that with more anticipation than Quantum of Solace!

Only out of curiosity. It'd be like staring at a train wreck.

Actually, I prefer Uwe Boll to direct DC's Bond 23 and Kenny G to do the theme song for QOS or any future DC's Bonds since I was never on DC's side to begin with.

Image Never could stand this bloke.

Debbie's comments are very illuminating. Last I heard she was still working for them.
Pop star Robbie Williams will not be cast as a future James Bond, the casting director for the world-famous film series has said.

The singer has long been reported to have a fervent wish to play 007 and posed as the secret agent in his video for the single Millennium, which featured a riff from the Bond song You Only Live Twice.

Debbie McWilliams, who has cast six James Bond movies, including the last three, said he was not right for the part.

She told Internet radio station netfm.com: "Robbie Williams, bless him, I don't think is quite what we're looking for," she said.

She added: "Russell Crowe, maybe, but I think it will be somebody less well known than them."

She said a Bond had to be "devastatingly handsome, incredibly fit and available".

Robbie Williams has played the part of a secret agent in his videos
"Strangely enough, if you saw what was in my postbox, it seems that every man who walks this earth thinks he is James Bond," she said.

The Daily Record newspaper reported on Monday that little-known Scottish actor Gerard Butler has been approached to be the new Bond when Pierce Brosnan stands down.

Butler, whose only leading role is in the forthcoming Dracula 2000 movie, directed by Wes Craven, had a walk-on part in the Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies.

'Unhappy'

Ms McWilliams said she was unhappy that actress Denise Richards was cast in the most recent Bond film, The World Is Not Enough.

She said: "I wouldn't want to be held responsible for that piece of casting. She wasn't my idea of a nuclear scientist.

"There are lots of reasons why she was cast - mostly they have to have a girl who they think will appeal to 13-to-18 year-old boys in America and Denise was the girl who was chosen.

"She's actually a very nice girl, but for my money she wasn't right for that part."

The script for the next Bond movie, known as XX in the industry, has been completed she said.

"The script is on the producer's desk but I haven't been able to open it yet," she said.

She added: "I gather we're going to some far-flung places this time."
Apparently in 2001 the producers could hire someone who wasn't right for that part and in 2006 nobody was allowed to doubt their decisions.

This thread reminded me that Robbie made the news recently.

An investigation by the British broadcasting industry regulator OfCom has found that Doctor Who star Catherine Tate was unfairly denied the People's Choice Award at the 2005 British Comedy Awards, screened on the ITV network. The recipient of the award was to have been decided by a telephone vote from viewers.

BBC News reports that even though Tate won the most votes in the category, the prize was given to presenting duo Ant and Dec. This was done because pop star Robbie Williams had agreed to attend the ceremony and present a prize, but would only do so if it could be for Ant and Dec. As they had not won any of the jury-decided categories, it was decided that they should win the audience award to ensure Williams's attendance.

The Times quotes a spokesman for Tate as saying that the actress was an "innocent bystander" in the matter, and had no desire to comment. Ant and Dec have said that they will return their award, which will presumably now be given to Tate.

Back in 2001, Robbie was rumored to take the Bond role in DAD.

How about Kenny G. as a Bond henchman. He could blow poison gas or darts out of his clarinet?

Kenny G. should be known as Mr. G in QOS, trying to kill DC's Bond.

You know, I can see it. Robbie has the look. And he's got the mischievous boy thing going.

The nice thing about these speculations, you really can't do worse than Craig.

at this point I think a trained Chimp, shaved and playing with his own fecies could do a better job than Craig.
It would certainly be more entertaining to watch than anything Craig's done.
