I mention Peter Bowles because he always seemed to be mentioned whenever the candidates for a new Bond were listed. Although he was mainly mentioned in The Sun newspaper in the 80's!

A little too smooth. I can imagine him seducing the ladies, but could you see him in, say the killing of Dent scene from DN?

I've never read anything linking him to the role seriously. He's good fun in his urbane way but I don't think you'd ever believe that Peter Bowles could beat people up or save the world.

I think he used to play villians because he is Hungarian i.e. he looked foreign! But he morphed into a stereotypical English gentleman type, probably because of To The Manor Born.

He'd kill Dent by shoving some cucumber sandwiches down his throat!
