Not sure about that. This is one occassion when her obvious embarrassment at Bond's past may actually be the correct response.katied wrote:^If she were given the advice NOT to bring back the bald Blofeld, she'd ignore it.

I hope so.. Everyone knows my feelings on retro-izing the Bond films and that I think it's a bad idea. That's why using Devil May Care is a bad idea.Well, that and it's not a very good book. Not sure about that. Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
That doesn't mean it couldn't be a good film in the right hands (ever read Jaws, he says, holding his nose)? But I'm against the idea of a period piece Bond. It would please some of the hardcore fans, but it would just confuse the casual moviegoer.katied wrote:I hope so.. It would make a really good out of canon film-given, as you said the right hands. There might have to be some changes to the book before it made it to the screen, though(that's a given!

DMC could work as a 007 movie far better then it worked as a Fleming impersonation. Funny how EON thinks DMC should be a period piece and CR was just fine for modernisation.

Caught a few minutes of CR the other day(it was on the USA channel-without much editing) and it's amazing how much technology is in that movie. Thing is, that is going to date it in a few years(if it hasn't already). .I'm starting to think that maybe a period piece CR wouldn't have been such a bad thing.Blowfeld wrote:DMC could work as a 007 movie far better then it worked as a Fleming impersonation. Well, that's always been a hazard of the Bond films, like in the '60s films when Q talks about "the latest minituarization technology" before pulling out some gadget that's like something you'd find in Best Buy, only 10 times bigger.katied wrote: Caught a few minutes of CR the other day(it was on the USA channel-without much editing) and it's amazing how much technology is in that movie. http://www.cinemaspy.com/article.php?id ... w_comments If only this were a definite, we could close up shop and move on with the discussions. Cheryl Cole as a Bond girl?
Aces, but can she act is the question and hopefully she divorces that bum of a husband but I hope she stays clear of Derek Hough of DWTS as well.

Funny to see so many positive comments on there though, and only a couple of negative ones.
Come on BJ. Get your act together. I thought you would log in under a few different names to give some negativity, and balance it up a bit......
And even in this article, Craig still manages to get some praise thrown his way -

If Craig does depart the role, that would already equal a major twist, though given that he truly owned the character for the past two films — with many people of the opinion that he was the best Bond since Sean Connery — it may be a bit premature to put Craig out to 007 pasture.

You have to love this! The d*m*ed bookie story from hell will not die. You thinks it dead and it comes back!Kristatos wrote:The source is Contact Music, so I'd take it with a gallon of salt if I were you.bjmdds wrote:http://www.cinemaspy.com/article.php?id ... w_comments If only this were a definite, we could close up shop and move on with the discussions.
First question who is doing the supposed hiring? Not MGM. They combine the bookie story with a snippet about Craig delaying production, the production date he is supposedly delaying was put out by MGM to look like they have some money coming in soon. Bond is stuck so Craig went off to find work. I don't think he stop production. Brosnan and Dalton kept their schedules as open as possible to no avail, but they need to keep working. These actors are not trust fund babies like the Eon inheritors.
A possibility is the frame work has been established to use the escape clauses and bring on a new Bond on, but I would doubt that. If it does end up happening then this could be foot work that makes it happen. There were talks like these before Dalton and Brosnan were fired so maybe its true but it feels like sensationalism.
We should wait for is new owners then see what news comes.
One possibility that intrigues me is if the debt holders decide not to sell and take over. I am not sure how that would work but if I were an investor and had just been as royally screwed I might be tempted to take the d*m*ed studio and keep it.

I go by one name on the internet, unlike others who post under several aliases. I do not hide what people write Sweeney. I think most on that site are pro-CR-eggers so an article about him leaving would set up a storm. Maybe Eon had some internet shills write there too as they do on MI6 and CB.net. Soemone named Chestnuts has the proper take on things in their response. The Sweeney wrote:You can always count on Kris for a sanity check.....![]()

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Just been reading an article on Mi6 regarding the making of 'Die Another Day', upon reading it, it made me wonder could some of the developments surrounding this film be some of the reasons why Pierce Brosnan was not asked back for a fifth film?
There were alot more issues with this film than I had realised.
But four weeks before, none of the supporting cast have been hired, why not?
Connery was overweight and uninterested in Bond by the time he made DAF, in reality he shouldn't have come back. (Though DAF is something of a guilty pleasure for me.)
Roger Moore was old enough in OP, but was too old to play Bond in AVTAK. Some would argue that FYEO should've been his last, but either way he was past his prime before he retired from the role.
Now after Pierce suffered his knee injury, and halted filming, the producers were more than likely very concerned. Here was an actor who had rejuvunated the Bond series, but who could be a problem going into the future. He's not getting any younger, and to have the lead actor stopping filming becomes a very worrying and altogether expensive situation. It's because of this, that I think the re-casting of the Bond character was decided.
It stands out for me in DAD more than any other Bond film, (and MR had tonnes of obvious advertising), and really does detract from the story.
The re-boot has never bothered me, but for some Bond fans it's an issue. I can't say it was required and had to be done. But at the same time, I really don't see why it's an issue for anyone. Afterall, it's not like the Bond series had great continuity uptill that point.
On a final note, this isn't a Pierce bash or a Daniel Craig is so great he had to be Bond post. It's merely an observation of why things may have transpired the way they did.

There were alot more issues with this film than I had realised.
Why did it take so long to cast? I'm of the opinion that the cast isn't a major problem, infact I quite like Toby Stephens, Gustav Graves.Mi6 wrote:Casting was an almost last-minute affair. Four weeks before filming began, the only parts that had been cast were the MI6 regulars - Pierce Brosnan (007), Judi Dench (M), Samantha Bond (Moneypenny), Colin Salmon (Robinson) and John Cleese (Q).
But four weeks before, none of the supporting cast have been hired, why not?
Though the casting of Ms.Berry was not one of the best casting choices in my opinion. Even before CR and QOS, there were some issues as far as what would've been done in the past.Mi6 wrote:The casting of Halle Berry as the lead 'Bond Girl' drew headlines around the world, but necessitated further late changes to the structure of the story. This is most apparent during the Ice Palace scenes where Bond yo-yo's in and out of the villain's lair - breaking Cubby Broccoli's rule of "never going back to the same place twice".
Well it's not the first, and it wont be the last time that the press have exaggerated stories concerning Bond. I guess the old saying don't believe everything that you read, could be used here.Mi6 wrote:Berry was slightly hurt during filming when debris from a smoke grenade flew into her eye causing a scratched cornea. She was treated with eye drops at a local hospital. The US media ran exaggerated stories of dust, grit, grenades and even a flying rock.
Now this is one of the major factors I believe Pierce wasn't asked back to make a fifth film. In the past Bond was allowed to stay as long as they liked.Mi6 wrote:Brosnan suffered himself during the filming of the opening teaser sequence. The cold and slippery surfaces in Aldershot, UK, caused havoc for the world`s most famous secret agent. "I didn't warm up. It was as simple as that. You really need to stretch, and I just kind of ran through those paces. I suddenly realised that I had to do a 200-yard-dash with 500 extras, six cameras, explosions, one thing and another, and the knee just went. It was a cold February morning." Shortly afterwards Brosnan flew to the US for a small operation on the damaged knee before filming continued 7 days later. It was the first time in the series' 40 year history that a Bond movie was briefly shut-down due to the unplanned absence of its star.
Connery was overweight and uninterested in Bond by the time he made DAF, in reality he shouldn't have come back. (Though DAF is something of a guilty pleasure for me.)

And rightly so, CGI stunts look obvious, and are to unbelievable. The CGI parasurfing Bond stick figure only highlighted this issue.Mi6 wrote:The effects company behind the CG sequence reportedly spent so much effort achieving the quality required for the waves and icebergs that they left insufficient time to properly composite the Bond character.
This experiment in using a digital Bond to achieve a stunt sequence was lambasted by the stunt industry and mocked in many reviews of the film.
Again, the product placement in this movie becomes part of the movie. It's like a two hour advert at times. Something that would feature in the next Bond film CR.Mi6 wrote:The movie also set a new record for merchandising, with $120 million worth of deals with 24 various companies for product placement and/or tie-ins. It was reported that these deals covered the production budget even before cameras had rolled.]
It stands out for me in DAD more than any other Bond film, (and MR had tonnes of obvious advertising), and really does detract from the story.
Even former Bond actor Roger Moore realised that DAD had gone to far, and was over the top. As in the past, Bond had to be brought back to earth with thud. The result was Casino Royale, with a new actor in the role of Bond.Critical reception to "Die Another Day" was mixed with many long-time fans expressing disappointment at the outlandish turns the film took after the otherwise well-received first reel. Sir Roger Moore actively voiced his displeasure with the film, citing the invisible car and the weak CGI as being a low for the series. "I thought it just went too far — and that’s from me, the first Bond in space!", he said. "Invisible cars and dodgy CGI footage? Please! They gave the public what they wanted, though maybe they too realised there was only so far they could push it before Bond became a caricature of himself, and the funeral directors were called in."
The re-boot has never bothered me, but for some Bond fans it's an issue. I can't say it was required and had to be done. But at the same time, I really don't see why it's an issue for anyone. Afterall, it's not like the Bond series had great continuity uptill that point.

Martin Campbell opened up both of his Bond films in a men's toilet. Coincidence or fixation? CR-egg's Defiance received no Oscar buzz. What a surprise.

It seems like EON like to do things on the fly. QOS didn't have a script until about a millisecond before shooting started, and boy did it show?Captain Nash wrote:Just been reading an article on Mi6 regarding the making of 'Die Another Day', upon reading it, it made me wonder could some of the developments surrounding this film be some of the reasons why Pierce Brosnan was not asked back for a fifth film?

As for the reboot, the reason it's an issue for me (I can't speak for anyone else) is that I found it distracting in CR. I was thinking about series continuity when I should have only cared about the plot and characters. I know continuity is low in the Bond films, but when I'm holding a philosophical debate with myself as to whether this can really be considered the same character as the previous 20 films as I'm watching the film in the cinema, something is profoundly wrong.
