When Universal executives wake up Sunday morning, they’ll likely have something to crow about: Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss appears to have elbowed Warner Bros. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice out of No. 1 after its two weekend hold, with respective industry projections for each title at $24.5M and $23.3M. Even though BvS made more than The Boss on Saturday, $10.6M to $10M, the McCarthy movie had the upper hand on Friday night with an extra $2M over BvS. Kudos to Uni distribution for choosing the right spot on the calendar for this R-rated female targeted comedy. They waited until BvS let out its air, then took advantage of the marketplace which lacked a solid fun draw for females.

The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......

I hope the idea of making overly serious super hero movies that are no fun to watch goes away.

WB made every mistake from their previous attempts at rebooting dc. Dark knight trilogy worked for a lot of reasons but they didn't get why and have tried to copy it with a director who doesn't have the skill.

Then they get Affleck who is a giant ego. Not that this would have worked with bales bat.
Then they jump the shark with dooms day and a special Easter message for superman and his impending resurrection.

Oh I was trying to think of a movie that encapsulated the reboot mentality of Hollywood, and how bad Sony is at it. Robocop and karate kid sum it up. I do think sonys attitude toward reboots made its way into bond.

Found this.

Warner Bros. needs Batman v Superman to take in more than $1 billion worldwide to recoup the money it spent on producing and marketing the film. It's currently at around $720 million worldwide, with repeated drops in ticket sales and a general lack of momentum making studio executives nervous that it won't reach the billion-dollar benchmark.

The superheroes are still champs overseas in their 3rd frame. The weekend estimate is $34M in 67 markets. That’s a 60% drop from last session (which itself was a 66% dip from the debut session over Easter weekend). The international cume for the superheroes is $486.8M.

The Boss officially topped S v B by $223,566, dropping it to number 2 already. Next weekend, say good bye to S v B, as we predicted. Next weekend, Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book and Barbershop: The Next Cut unleashes in theaters and is expected to fire up audiences across the nation. Those two films could end up pulling in close to $100M between them as Jungle Book is looking to make in the $70Ms and Barbershop in the mid-$20Ms, according to early tracking. S v B was a three week front loaded film that won't come anywhere close to The Avengers I and II nor Iron Man 3. I doubt it even tops $900 million. Look for a delay in any future DC Justice League films.........CA:Civil War should come close, if not surpass, the $1 billion mark too as I suspect our buddy FBF will see it 5 times in the theaters.

Justice League was scheduled to begin production today (April 11). If I were a Warners executive, I'd feel some concern.

a lot of people are saying synder is not the guy to had the blueprint of the dc screen universe off to.
Some hope the suicide squad and Wonder Woman do better than BvS because those are the two movies he has the least to do with. If they succeed it might help the bosses put the brakes on sanders vision.

If I were WB I would have a regroup when it comes to JL.

Wonder Woman won't do well. It's not a big concept in the paying customer realm for tickets. I know nothing about this Suicide Squad film and I have no clue if audiences will embrace such a concept in 2016.

I dunno. Maybe. I like the comic but the Dc universe they are building is not so great.

They did a bunch of reshooting right after BvS was slammed by critics and fans. If Craig were in this movie and had to reshoot he'd be sulking and talking about slashing his wrists

I don't agree. I've read a lot of comments saying that WW's appearances in Batman V Superman were the best thing about that film. Plus, there is a growing audience of female comic book fans that has been hitherto underserved by superhero movies. When I attended my first comic conventions in the '80s, pretty much the only women you ever saw were the occasional wife or girlfriend who had been reluctantly dragged along by their significant other. Nowadays, it's quite common to see almost as many women as men. The cosplay scene is particularly female-dominated (with Wonder Woman a popular choice). So there's definitely a gap in the market there.

Suicide Squad I'm less sure about. Initially, they seemed to be going for the Deadpool audience, with a hip, indie vibe and talk of an R-rating. Now they are saying that it will be a PG-13 after all, and the budget is rumoured to be "north of $250 million". It sounds like a film that doesn't really know who it's aimed at, which is rarely a recipe for success.

Even in my area with s small population cosplay is popular. Wonder Woman and other female kickass Heroes are popular

Fansided.com: Daniel Yanofsky : Speaking to Digital Spy, Gadot discussed the different side of Wonder Woman fans never knew about. She stated:
We go back 100 years to when she’s more naïve. She’s this young idealist. She’s pure. Very different to the experienced, super-confident, grown-up woman you’ve seen. One would have to assume that something terrible will happen for her to make the transition from naive girl to certified badass. Not surprisingly, DC is not looking to tone down the dark nature their recent films have been known for. Even for a character like Wonder Woman who lives in the beautiful island of Themyscira, there may not be light shining down on her. That would definitely be different, and I’m not sure that’s a good thing. In regards to the tone, Gadot stated:In Batman v Superman, you get a glimpse of who she is but not where she comes from. In Wonder Woman, this would be the first time we ever tell the coming-of-age story of how Diana becomes Wonder Woman. It’s very interesting. It has moments of humor, but it’s pretty dark. Once again, darkness prevails in the DC universe. I fear a majority of DC’s Justice League-related films will succumb to the darkness, with some comedy to balance it out. There may be a few changes to the stories told in the Wonder Woman comics. Maybe something will happen to her or her mother, or even Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman’s love interest. I don’t believe that a dark film will drive audiences to arrive to theaters. Just like Superman, Wonder Woman is supposed to be a beacon of hope for all mankind. Knowing DC’s history, this makes me very uneasy.

A study from the University College London reports that people who watch TV or work on a computer for four or more hours a day increase their risk of an event associated with cardiovascular disease, like a heart attack, by 125 percent. Long periods of sitting deplete the body’s supply of lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that breaks down fat and prevents clogged arteries..............S v B was down 78% on Monday from Sunday's total and remained in second place to boot :!:
