Even Lee Tamahori, believe it or not, won widespread critical acclaim for his debut feature, Once Were Warriors. He probably seemed like a prestige hire at the time.

Not good enough. That b*tch forgot the meaning a classic needs classic when Pierce was still Bond. Pierce is a classic type, and he deserves a classic (though he had with GE but that wasn't enough). But if a non-classic like DC got a classic, then anybody or anything can. Haven't you forgot about this?

How about Broccoli emails you directly on this forum    and admits her treatment of Pierce's Bond career and dismissal was done poorly? I am sure she knows who you are by now FBF after reading our forum to see what we write.
Not good either. She committed a a heinous crime and disrespected a modern classic Bond far enough (as mentioned in my reply to veronica) that she should hire crew of lowlives to be next Bond.

FBF,who cares what Craig fanboys think anyway?
For what I've seen in general Brosnan is no.2 choice for best Bond after Sean. Despite the glorious campaign put on by EON to represent Craig as the best thing that ever happened to the franchise.
She hired Mendes because he is reliably pretentious and can be counted on to deliver a pretentious movie that critics will applaud. She hired another "character" director during Brosnan era. Apted, although he is not as pretentious as Mendes.
But I get the feeling he was interested in working with Brosnan and Marceau but not particulary interested in the movie happening around them. And the fact that they started shooting TND without the finished script and a complete cast shows how much of a knack EON had for film making.
Also, there's a whole lot of talk about next Bond so I think that says something about actual impact Craig has on audience. Back in 2005 there was a huge backlash about his casting and I feel this "the best since Connery" thing is much more of a talk of media and pretentious critics than general public.
GoldenEye game with Craig? I agree it's just :skull: :cuss:

It's for them to feel how we feel when Craig was cast. I mean we have Sweenster hated the idea of black Bond.

Which is why you might as well cast lowlives as Bond.

it's a big name and been sold months before hand. When I saw the ads I thought there were problems with the story. On top of that they kept delaying release .
If it doesn't meet projections for opening weekend it will be hailed as a flop. But it almost a done deal between pre sales and no real competition.

If it fails it will be word of mouth that killed it

Working against the film is the third and fourth rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament this weekend as well as a two-and-a-half-hour running time, but perhaps the most important blemish on its record is the critical savaging it has sustained. The film currently sits at a 31% rating at RottenTomatoes as of publication, a number that puts attention not only on the film's future prospects but also calls into question the value of a critical consensus when it comes to films with baked in audiences.

It's important to note that of the 11 live-action films that have grossed over $150 million in their opening weekend, the lowest RottenTomatoes rating of the lot is Spider-Man 3's 63% rating. Of the 31 live-action films that have grossed over $100m in their opening weekend only six have a RottenTomatoes rating below 50% and three of those are in the Twilight franchise, two are Transformers films and the sixth is 2007's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. So, what is a film with a 31% rating to do other than buck the trend and pave its own path to a $150+ million opening?

Several stars have been linked to the role should Daniel quit, including 'Poldark' star Aidan Turner who was recently rumoured to have held talks with producers about taking over from the 'Layer Cake' star. A source recently said: "Aidan has held preliminary talks with Bond producers and being in LA will give him a further chance to discuss the role." According to Collider, the 25th installment in the spy action franchise has begun development and producers have turned to real-world events for inspiration. Associate producer Gregg Wilson revealed, "We've just begun to doodle with ideas for the next movie. Each script process begins when we ask ourselves the question: "What is the world afraid of now?" In the case of Spectre the theme was global monitoring and utilization of information. So now we are trying to find out what will be relevant in the coming years." Wilson added that they are pushing to give fans something new especially when it came to the titular agent James bond. He said, "...often it helps to go back to Ian Fleming's novels for inspiration, whether you're talking about grades or mood." Mark Strong, Craig's personal friend and fellow actor, said that the chances of Craig's return in future films in the franchise are slim. He said, "Do you know what, I'd have loved to have played the villain in a Bond movie while Daniel was doing it because he's a pal and that would have been great... But I think he's come to the end of his Bond time and so it's probably never going to happen..." Meanwhile, Craig's representative insisted that his client is not quitting the franchise just yet. According to The Independent, previous rumors suggested that Craig will not be returning for 'James Bond 25' because of his commitment to the television series 'Purity'. However, the representative said that it didn't mean the actor couldn't do both projects at the same time.

I think a film like Batman v Superman is critic-proof, up to a point. A lot of tickets will have been sold before the reviews started coming in. However, if the film is as bad as they say, word of mouth will ensure that it remains massively front-loaded.

Ah,Wilson says they are going back to Fleming....favourite line of EON. What world is afraid of now? Stop trying to make this whole "is Bond relevant?" discussion. If only someone told them Bond is a timeless character...

I dunno, Bond films have always drawn from the news headlines, whether it's the space race in DN and YOLT, the energy crisis in TMWTGG or the '80s fear of nuclear annihilation in OP. People just didn't notice it as much before, because it wasn't laid on with a trowel the way it was in SPECTRE.

Of course it's true what you say,but now it's just waaaay too much on the nose. They constantly go on about how they must keep Bond relevant and how "world domination" is ridiculous and how they need to be realistic etc...

Whatever war of words Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice lost with critics with a 30% Rotten Tomatoes score, it’s making up for nine-fold at the box office. Last night, Zack Snyder’s Dark Knight and Son of Jor’El smackdown had a great Thursday at the B.O. reaping $27.7M, punching out the preview cash made by Disney/Marvel’s Age of Ultron ($27.6M from 7PM shows), Avengers ($18.7M, midnight) and Iron Man 3 ($15.6M, 9PM) as well as Warner Bros. 2008 midnight shows from Dark Knight ($18.5M).

Happy Easter.

Some bad news from The Sun?

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sh ... album.html
JAMES BOND chiefs are making fans wait two years for the next movie, in a bid to convince DANIEL CRAIG to return.

The break is designed to give Daniel time to wrap up a 20-episode US TV series, Purity, and take on a stint in Othello on Broadway – with the hope he’ll then be persuaded to play 007 for a fifth time.

But Bond producer BARBARA BROCCOLI will be keeping busy, too.

An insider said: “Studio execs really want Daniel as he’s a safe Bond and does well at the box office.

“The next Bond is a special event because it’s the 25th movie.

The hell with this. If Cr-egg does another film in 3 years it's 6 years until Aidan. Enough already.----- “After the huge success of Skyfall and Spectre, everyone wants to get this right – nobody wants a reboot with an untested actor.

“Barbara wants Daniel as she’s a massive fan but she also wants to keep busy with other projects in the meantime.”

Craig doesn't do well on the box office. It's laughable to say something like that. Bond does well on the box office.
Craig coming back? Please NO! He should have been dumped the moment when he said he would rather slash his wrist than do another movie. :cuss:
