{At least say your sorry to bj. That's the right thing ------I hope he accepts my apology. I just really want nothing but the best for Pierce's career especially since his Bond career didn't give him justice due to that fact that GE was his only classic Bond to the majority}..............That's OK FBF but I want you to calm down every time Pierce and The Topkapi Affair comes up in discussions. What "IF" we found out Pierce had the financing and the film was a go next year? Would you not see it for some odd reason? I am still shocked at the numbers NM did in the UK What was the reason it hardly played there since Brosnan is well known there?

With regards Brosnan's career outside of Bond, I really liked Thomas Crown, and The Ghost Writer (which I thought Brozza was superb in).
The problem facing all Hollywood actors these days is the money isn't there any more for films. Budgets are far higher now for TV drama, which is where all the A list actors are turning to.
Unless you are appearing in the next Super Hero or Hobbit flick, or another popular franchise, or a decent director (Nolan/Fincher) movie, then there isn't much available for what's left over, other than the types of flicks that Brosnan is appearing in.
At least he is still getting work.
Would you look forward to The Topkapi Affair if it was ever made?

Yes, I'd watch it. I liked Thomas Crown, so would look forward to a sequel.

Not just a big blockbuster and not just a movie with terrific reviews but a movie of both of these ingredients. That's what GE had achieved. The thing about Pierce's debut Bond film is that it's really great movie that appeal to the wider audience (as in beyond Pierce's fanbase). Did we get this essence of GE in Pierce's last three Bonds? No we didn't. Since Pierce's 5th (which would have been his best) never existed, there's always the alternative, right? And that alternative is his 3rd career and new beginning. Whatever this new beginning is, I hope it's a series that would achieve what his Bond career had failed to do: each film that gets better and better. Think LOTR, for example.....although this is fantasy talking.
The thing that actually I have more problems with is his James Bond career.

Which is why Pierce deserves his new beginning.
If you think that the only Bond movie he ever did appealed to the general audiance was GE I mean...you couldn't be more wrong. All of his movies were HUGE hits.He just attracted the audience and the main reason why all of his four movies did well is because he was Bond in them.On the other hand Craig movies did well at the box office because they had a strong PR-really like the greatest one.Plus the movies are still called James Bond and people still have this image of classy, charismatic secret agent even though that kind of Bond is long gone.If we are talking about critic reviews then obviously GoldenEye is the strongest one.All the others got mixed reviews even though you can't possibly put TND and TWINE in the same basket as DAD.I don't know which one got the second best reviews after GoldenEye.I'm presuming it is either TND or TWINE.Maybe you know?

I hope GE doesn't get all the glory for itself for long. It was Pierce's last box office hit (action film to be specific) with excellent reviews. Really he deserves his best since GE. Look at Keanu Reeves. After many years of poorly-rated films (though his last two Matrix films were hits, he finally has his best since the first Matrix.
From 2013: 'The status of Thomas Crown 2': “We’ve been talking about it for years,” Brosnan says. “It’s still on the shelf…dormant. I don’t think it’ll happen.” The sequel was rumoured to be titled The Topkapi Affair, a remake of the 1964 heist film Topkapi that starred Melina Mercouri, Maximilian Schell, and Peter Ustinov. Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct) was attached to direct, but he left in 2010. But Brosnan still has a sliver of hope that Thomas Crown 2 might get made. Even though he is 60, the former James Bond star figures there is a slight window of opportunity when his next film – a spy thriller – opens later this year. “I’ve just done a movie called November Man with my producing partner Beau St. Clair. If that gets traction, we have a calling card to be able to go to MGM and say, ‘Let’s go with Thomas Crown.’”

For long? It's been 20 years since GoldenEye.I think we should stop comparing his non-Bond films to his Bond films.Even if Survivor turns out to be great I won't say "it topped GoldenEye".I don't compare other movies to Bond movies.

Quite. I don't think it's healthy to spend so much time pining for some big comeback that may never happen. Pierce himself strikes me as a "glass half full" sort of person, thankful for the successes he's already had, whereas FBF won't rest until he (Pierce) plays the leading role in an action movie that grosses more than Goldeneye adjusted AND wins a BAFTA AND scores over 83% (Goldeneye's score) on Rotten Tomatoes, just like...well I'm sure there's a long list of movies that fit all those criteria, but I'm struggling to think of them right now.
"He's the one that doesn't smile" - Queen Elizabeth II on Daniel Craig
Happy easter all and nice sig Daltonite Toothpaste (grew up with Mccoy (first doctor to Me back then), never understood why he got so much flak back then, he was devious little git later on and one of the best to Me only surpassed possibly by Peter Capaldi).
Sorry all for My anger last week, a relative (grandad) was/is still in hospital (had a few mini strokes then a major stroke), he's 92 and got other stuff he's had for 4 years as well and I guess the last thing I need at the minute is more realism gritty drek esp given the circumstances at the minute, I'm well and truly sick of this so called era of bond (just lighten the beep up already..life's too serious as it is at times).

I hope Sly puts Pierce in EX4 which I don't expect to be highly rated. After all, critics hate those films anyway.

Exactly. Pierce seems to be grateful and happy for the career he already has. As I already said he seems like he takes a role if he likes it not by chances of success.

Furthermore,Pierce himself picks the projects he's going to star in.That's his choice. That's why I have more problems with his Bond tenure. He couldn't choose there and took what was given.I'm not saying GoldenEye is his only good film.TND could have been a nightmare because problem production, luckily it's far from it.I' pretty sure everybody know my feelings on TWINE.DAD is the real problem and the fact that that was his last is simply...a tragedy. But what's done is done,I guess.Sadly.
