Not really. You can notice in Brosnan's movies she was different than she was in Cr-egg's pathetic trilogy. She was being a mother figure in the latter. And thus, her name in Brosnan's movies is Barbara Mawsdley while her name in the rebooted movies is Olivia Mansfield. Two different characters played by the same actress, nothing more.bjmdds wrote:although Dame Judi Dench played the same character through the Pierce Brosnan films and the Daniel Craig reboot, confusingly.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Reading the British tabloid newspaper 'The Sun' this weekend, i came across this item regarding Bond 24.
The newspaper stated that there is a possibility that Bond 24 may be based on the Sebastian Faulks novel 'Devil May Care', and that Bond's adversary in that is some sort of mad chemist!
Well, considering we are still a long way from production on Bond 24, and the secrecy the studio's use to hide the plots from the public, and that a writer had already been hired to pen a new story........i think this is nothing more than British newspaper rubbish talk.
Anyway, the reason i mentioned it, was because do members here think its a good idea to base future Bond films on these alternative Bond books that have been written in recent times?

In Friday's US box office chart, Adam Sandler "comedy" Grown Ups 2 has roundly beaten Pacific Rim to take the #1 spot. Truly, western civilisation is doomed.

No. Only Fleming based books should be used. It's a further distancing of the franchise from it's originator(Fleming) and a redefining of Bond in the image of a horny green vegetableEnglish Agent wrote:Reading the British tabloid newspaper 'The Sun' this weekend, i came across this item regarding Bond 24.

Yes but they say this is what Fleming wanted so it a now win ether way. I think Babs and Craig already passed on Devil may care, it'd be the one story that could unify the Craig factions against.bjmdds wrote:No. Only Fleming based books should be used. Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
It's more a case of finding Adam Sandler less funny than chemotherapy. I haven't seen Pacific Rim yet, but Guillermo Del Toro's name on the credits attracted my attention, and I've heard good things about it from other people. But it was that Guardian review explicitly stating that it was an antidote to the so-called New Seriousness represented by the Craig "Bond" films that made me root for its success. Had it grossed more than Skyfall, it might have sent out a message to Barbie and Ken, but it doesn't look like there's much chance of that happening.Omega wrote: Kris why do you care about Pacific Rim? Something I've been working with. Took me more than three hours. An original idea based on facts that Patrick McGoohan being offered the James Bond role twice, but declined due to some moral reasons. Another fact by the fandom who suggested Yul Brynner to play Ernst Stavro Blofeld quite often but it never saw the light of the day. In an alternate universe, here's something that fans can be satisfied with. McGoohan, the star of the eponymous Danger Man series has been recruited to play Bond in the early 1960s.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Hi....ive been out of the film loop for quite a while now.....and had lost interest somewhat.
I did see 'World War Z' recently, as i wanted to see if Marc Forster had learnt any lessons, after filming the dire QOS.
Well, the first half of the film was dissapointing, as it was like QOS, ie filmed at above the speed of light, but i was surprised that the second half of the film, when it appeared to slow down was actually quite good, overall though not a very memorable film.
What is it nowadays that Zombies in films, can run faster than Usain Bolt?
I had thought of seeing the 'Man of Steel', but i got the impression there wasn't a very positive buzz on this film.
Are there actually any films this summer, that members here can recommend to me seeing?

By the way, since Danger Man IS a classic spy Bond parallel. Can we get some profile thumbnails for John Drake avatars, please? I'd like to have one.

I do think McGoohan, would of made a good Bond, but i also think he would of been consistently at loggerheads with the producers over the aspect of the character and the tone of the films.........but we will never know!

San Diego ComiCom starts Thursday.I'm not going(don't really like crowds, and it sells out early).Wonder if there will be someone there next year trying to drum up interest for Bond 24?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
As I understand it, SDCC is losing its luster somewhat as a promotional tool for media other than comics, due to the success of movies like Dredd failing to transfer to the outside world.kater23 wrote:San Diego ComiCom starts Thursday.I'm not going(don't really like crowds, and it sells out early).Wonder if there will be someone there next year trying to drum up interest for Bond 24?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Kris, there was talk about moving ComiCon out of San Diego..the hue and cry was incredible. ComiCon brings in lots of money for the city of San Diego, there's no denying that.
It's more about promoting media other than movies, true enough. It's a way for the networks to get their shows out there. TV shows-but Sci-fi /fantasy/horror shows in particular- have been a big part of the con for the last few years, with quite a few successes for the most part.
