Harvey Wallbanger wrote:Look it these arguments can go back and forth. DAD was the biggest Bond movie -in recent history.
It spoke to the popularity of Brosnan's Bond. -The second best Bond to Connery for many. And beloved -Don't piss on the fans who loved him.
But it also cuts the other way. If Brosnan was popular with the BO as proof, then Craig can be called popular.

28% is a big drop -nearly 10%- from a previously reliable audience.
CR would have been $700 million, if the US audience would have shown up.

The world audience is lumped in to one figure and the world market in 2006 is bigger.
Last time I checked Thunderball is the most selling Bond film of all time...

They probably would. CR is still behind DAD in the US.

Do you not agree the non-US response to CR has been surprising?
I'm not surprised, mainly because Bond films have never preformed that well in the United States anyways; they seem to do better world wide. But to say Casino Royale is behind DAD is a joke.

As you can see, Casino Royale is the most selling Bond film in the United States; but as I said in my previous post, the US Box office only takes up about 29% of the franchise.

And that's without inflation. Of course, another fair way of judging the success of each Bond film is by the amount of tickets it's sold.

We'll see how much Craig does next time judging on his first film isn't fair, Craig's first film did better than GoldenEye's first in the US, with inflation.

If his Bond films continue to make 591 million world wide, then he'll surpass Connery as the most selling Bond of all time.

Your forgetting inflation, with inflation Thunderball made about $1 billion on it's own, Goldfinger about $850 million, cinema numbers aren't what they were in the 60s.

Still, Royale's the best selling since Live and Let Die, and GoldenEye was the best selling since Moonraker.

From Russia, With Love
Live and Let Die

Not that I'm disputing those films, but do you have a link to where you found those figures?
Nothing really surprising there though. :P

Back on topic, my point was that CR made about $60 million less in the UK than it did in the US. The US has four or five times the population of the UK. Therefore CR did fufil its potential to be a blockbuster ($200 million plus) in the US. Huge ad campaign by sony, no Lord Of the Rings around, no Harry Potter, no Narnia, no Titanic etc.

No it didn't. This is the most sucessfull film in the UK, i'd suggest you get your facts straight first.

Again, why can't some of you guys just accept this is a hit?

I wonder if this argument will continue for years to come?
A look into the future.
Anti-Craigers- "No it wasn't a hit. Happy Feet made more in the US and Daniel Craig has blonde hair and is not suitable to play James Bond."
Rest of the world - "Get over it. No one cares anymore."

I think you've failed to understand my point which is based around the suprising proximity of BO figures for CR in the US and UK when one considers the difference in population. But please don't let me spoil your fun. Keep saying the same thing over and over again. We all loved Brosnan and can't contemplate life without him. Blah, blah...

Recent as in the last moive
so in 1994, Licence to Kill was the biggest film in "recent history", because it was the last movie?

Oh come on, if "recent history" means the last film, of cause it's going to be the biggest "in recent history".
