LALD - It doesn't age well compared to Barry. It's just like all those other medicore 70s cop films.

I have to agree with you about TLD. why did the producers feel the need to use A-HA's track as the lead song, when they had better songs from the Pretenders on the same soundtrack? A-HA are so bland sounding compared to so many of the other theme songs.Captain Nash wrote:Nothing wrong with being in a minority Anakin.
The man has a right to his opinion afterall.
I see alot of people like GE. I myself am not a fan of the film or it's terrible score.
YOLT and OHMSS would rank as my top scores in the series. And even TLD has it's moments, though the title track is far from special.

I suppose I am, but that's alright. The song by McCartney is a standout for the score, I should add. Besides that, I really can't help but feel like I am listening to some cop film or TV show music of the early 70s.Skywalker wrote:I think you are clearly in the minority with that comment.stockslivevan wrote:

Because they had just scored a big hit with Duran Duran's theme from AVTAK and thought that teen bands were the way to go. But there was a big difference. Duran Duran were Bond fans who worked closely with John Barry on the theme and, whatever you think of their music, were at least prepared to give it 110%. A-ha, on the other hand, were not really interested in the gig, refused to even watch the film before writing the song and handed in a half-hearted effort saying "will this do?". Barry said that the contrast between the two experiences was his reason for not doing LTK, which was a shame, as I think the film would have been even better with a Barry score.paco chaos wrote:I have to agree with you about TLD. why did the producers feel the need to use A-HA's track as the lead song, when they had better songs from the Pretenders on the same soundtrack?

It's probably due to the fact LALD was released in the early 70's.stockslivevan wrote: I really can't help but feel like I am listening to some cop film or TV show music of the early 70s.
Seriously speaking though, I'm suprised you don't consider other Bond scores to be more dated than LALD. George Martin delivers arguably the best Non Barry score ever.

I always figured as much, but Duran Duran had been a proven hit maker having had multiple top ten singles. A-HA on the other hand were a one-hit wonder, at least in the US. and the fact that AVTAK was the biggest selling Bond theme would give one pause when considering a follow up.Kristatos wrote:Because they had just scored a big hit with Duran Duran's theme from AVTAK and thought that teen bands were the way to go. Exactly, that's why I hate it. It doesn't measure up with the timeless scores by Barry and just sounds very restricted, even worse for a film. It should at least sound like a score for a film than some bad 70s tv score. But like I said, if everyone likes it, fine with them.Skywalker wrote:It's probably due to the fact LALD was released in the early 70's.stockslivevan wrote: I really can't help but feel like I am listening to some cop film or TV show music of the early 70s.
