Broccoli is having a fit I bet NO major Oscar nominations for her pile of Bond manure? MGW must be calming her down. They will do a tribute to the franchise and let Adele sing her crummy dirge but I doubt she will win best song unless the green vegetable really shells out some green dough for the award. Shane was a far better picture than Bond 23.

Why would they be having a fit? This is the most noms a Bond film ever got to date and the first time it ever got any in 30 years. And stop pretending that the praises SF gets is only because EON bought them off or some other ludicrous claim. It may be hard for you to grasp, but people actually like it. I don't think the Star Trek reboot was all that good but I'm not gonna be a sore loser about and pretend it's some major conspiracy that people like it.

Behind the scenes she shelled out dough to spin her hype yet all she got was a song nomination. The segment on Bond's 50th was also a payoff most likely.

I don't believe that. The Oscars are just paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of the most successful movie franchise of all time. Why wouldn't they?

No, but the 1982 Oscars had a big 007 presence. For Your Eyes Only was nominated for best song and it was performed by Sheena Easton. Also, FYEO's composer, Bill Conti, was the musical director for the program and he incorporated part of his score into an elaborate (though looking back a bit cheesy) song and dance number that accompanied the song. It included Richard Kiel as Jaws and Harold Sakata, a few months before he died, as Oddjob.

This was also the same night that Albert R. Broccoli received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, given to a producer for his or her body of work. Roger Moore did the introduction. There was a long montage of clips, followed by a Broccoli speech. This clip has Moore's introduction, excludes the clips and has Broccoli's speech:

I particularly liked how Broccoli acknowledged two former partners, Irving Allen and Harry Saltzman, despite having differences with both over the years.

Before the 40th Cubby / EON never made a big deal over anniversaries. The 30th was missed completely, before that they did manage movies on either side of 1972 & 1982, for the rest of the world 1963/2013 is the 50th. It is a big deal to say this franchise has been around 50 year, Dr Who has his turn this year.
