Who got snubbed by the Oscars???
"Some Oscar dreamsflourished and some were dashed with this morning’s announcement of the 85th annual Academy Award nominations. Academy voters can be as harsh as they can be predictable, and some snubs seem designed to sting. Here are some of the directors, films and actors who got left out today even though they might have deserved better.

Kathryn Bigelow – The Zero Dark Thirty director was the first woman to win a Best Director Oscar for The Hurt Locker – she won’t be repeating that feat this year even though her film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden was nominated for Best Picture.

Leonardo DiCaprio – He got a Supporting Actor nomination from the Golden Globes for his Calvin Candie in Django Unchained but nothing for Leo today as cast mate Christoph Watlz got the nom.

Marion Cotillard – No Best Actress for her Rust and Bone performance?

Ben Affleck – No Best Director or Best Actor for Argo. Really? Even though it got a Best Picture nomination?

Skyfall – Yes it’s a James Bond movie. But, as the PGA recognized, it is a Sam Mendes-directed Bond movie starring Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem. It would have been a nice addition to the tribute the Academy plans for the Bond movies’ 50th anniversary during the Oscarcast, but Oscar himself was neither shaken nor stirred.

Quentin Tarantino – The Golden Globes gave the Django Unchained helmer a nomination and the Academy gave the movie itself a Best Picture nomination today but no Best Director for Quentin? Too much controversy?

Christopher Nolan – Holy Oversight, Batman! Even though Inception was nominated for Best Picture in 2010 and he’s picked up a pair of writing noms, The Dark Knight Rises director has never received a nomination for his helming work — including on the hugely successful Batman franchise. And just like with 2005’s Batman Begins and 2008’s The Dark Knight, Nolan was again left off the Best Director list.
I think Tarantino, Nolan, Affleck got a raw deal, Bigelow is overrated the movie she won for last time wasn't better than Avatar. There are more name on the list.

It's bagged 5 nominations, the most ever for a Bond flick, but to be honest I did think it may have made it to the Best picture category. It's more bizarre that the BAFTA's have snubbed it in the most important categories.
The Categories it was nominated for is almost an after thought, cinematography, Original score, Original song, sound editing, sound mixing.
After all the smack talk, not from you but others who stopped by to gloat, this has got to be a let down.

I think this proves once and for all that a Bond film will never win an Oscar in the most important categories.

Probably. I think it is hard for any popular movie to win, Bigelow won beating James Cameron what more could he have done to prove himself as a director? He resuscitated an entire industry and started the new 3D fad.
I was telling FBF the Oscars have been a joke for a long time now, I don't know if Skyfall deserved an Oscar but IMO the categories it was nominated for is a slap to the face, Adele probably got in just so she could sing for them, the other categories I'm not sure as I was a few months ago they can win them, thinking specifically of Roger Deakins. I've seen tow of the other nominees in those categories and I'm not sure a popcorn movie can win.

The Oscars sucked after 2004, which was when ROTK won all the nominations.

Might as well make James Bond a role everyone regardless of race (no, I'm not being racist) and appearance. If a DC Bond can get Oscars nominations, why not Bond movies starring direct opposites as Bond?

Fun in parts, but overall quite tacky too. It was like being on an all-inclusive where you cannot get off and escape in the evenings.

I LOVED our Caribbean cruise. There's a chance we might be going on another late this year.

Only 4-day this time (apparently a one-off thing for the cruise line- but the prices are REALLY good, $400 for a inside room which is no-frills but you're not going to be spending that much time there.)

I wouldn't call the cinematography category an afterthought. That's one of the most important aspects of filmmaking. SKYFALL and LINCOLN deserve the noms for that category.

As much as I like Tarantino, I didn't think DJANGO was all that. Fine film, but it was no where near as good as something like INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS.

Broccoli is having a fit I bet :!: NO major Oscar nominations for her pile of Bond manure? MGW must be calming her down. They will do a tribute to the franchise and let Adele sing her crummy dirge but I doubt she will win best song unless the green vegetable really shells out some green dough for the award. Shane was a far better picture than Bond 23.
