Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I saw DH-2 twice in the theatres. Spider-man 2 is the film this current one is most compared to by release date. After 14 days Spider-man 2 did $267 million in the USA. By comparison, this new one has done $204 million. That is quite a lot less and the 2004 film had no Imax and no 3-D, both of which are driving this current incarnation. At the NYC theatre I will see TDKR, it will be shown a total of-------are you ready for this?----------"42" times opening day
bumping Spiderman down to 10 showings, cutting out the Imax version, and Ice Age 4 to only 7 per day. I have NEVER seen this done at this theatre, not even for Potter
I sense a record might be approaching..............we will see........tick tock.........tick tock.............

Some fans of the actor are now saying "wouldn't it be great if they did a McQueen biopic with Dan?" 1) Craig is 44 and McQueen died at 50. You need somebody who can play McQueen as a young man (he was a TV star in his late 20s, a movie star by 30).
2) There's the issue of the English accent. Yes, I know British actors have dropped their accents to play Americans (Cavill doing it now with Superman, for example), but come on. McQueen was born in central Indiana.
3) There's more to playing Steve McQueen than being able to ride a motorcycle.
AND...if they got Craig to star in such a movie, does that mean they'd put in Ben Whishaw as Robert Vaughn?

There's the 3 (or more) faces of Daniel Craig, before he was named, and the launch, on the set, then the weird short hair, fake tan, and hard scowl trying to look like Steve McQueen they eventually went with. McQeeen's widow liked the idea of Daniel playing Steve after she saw CR. The Steve McQueen look for Bond was ridiculous, however it worked with the ruffian Daniel was playing, notably his best roles are when he was playing an unlikeable B villain so this played in to that I suppose. Which was as far removed from Ian's gentleman spy and the original series as EON could possible get, yet they are allowed to sit their and sanctimoniously tut-tut me for questing if they are out of their freaking minds.Capt. FBF reviews and/or BO don't make it right or wrong. Some of the most awful churlish movies I can think of had incredible BO.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Tracking indicates that there's more pre-release interest in The Dark Knight Rises than in The Avengers, and if that gap is significant enough, then The Dark Knight Rises can overcome its ticket price disadvantage and claim the all-time opening weekend record.
Since the main selling point appears to be that it is the final installment, a good way to come up with a range for the opening weekend of The Dark Knight Rises is by looking back at other popular series finales. For its five-day opening, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King earned $124.1 million, which was a 22 percent improvement over The Two Towers. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith jumped 44 percent over its predecessor with a $158.4 million four-day start, while Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was up 35 percent to $169.2 million over opening weekend. Based on these figures, The Dark Knight Rises should be in line for somewhere between $193 million and $228 million.
Thanks to an attention-grabbing campaign, the exorbitant pent-up demand, and the insane popularity of its predecessor, it's likely that the movie winds up on the higher end of this range, and barely beats The Avengers's $207.4 million record.
Weekend Forecast (July 20-22)
1. The Dark Knight Rises - $214.7 million (new record)
2. Ice Age 4 - $26.6 million (-43%)
3. The Amazing Spider-Man - $16.7 million (-51%)
4. Ted - $13.7 million (-39%

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
So sources say that as the lights go down for the big opening ceremony a week on Friday, a short film will begin, which will be shown on giant screens at the Olympic stadium and on TV at the same time. It features everybody’s favourite special agent, James Bond aka Daniel Craig, arriving with a crunch of gravel at Buckingham Palace. He makes his way inside, and the next clip is THE QUEEN HERSELF tapping Mr Craig on the shoulders and uttering the immortal words, “Arise Sir James”.
This is the first time the Queen has ever enaged in a fictional scenario on camera.
Sir James is then given a special mission, to open the London 2012 games. He heads outside and jumps into a waiting chopper, emblazoned with a Union Jack. This then speeds up the Thames, flying underneath Tower Bridge (the footage was filmed in sunny June).
Back at the stadium, the air is filled with the sound of whirling helicopter blades, as the very same chopper now magically appears above the stadium in real time, assuming it is not shot down by the surface to air missiles located on a nearby London tower block. A hatch opens. A rope drops.
AND DANIEL CRAIG ABSEILS INTO THE STADIUM!!
EA and Sweeney will rise to attention and salute Quasimodo

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Definitely, Henry Cavill's story as an actor and as a Bond candidate so far would be ideal for him to replace Danno ( please! I love that character on Hawaii Five-0!!!) like you said. And yes, a few do think he might be signed already (which would show incredible forward thinking on MGM/Sony's side, because no way in hell EON would be that smart with Babs and her crush on Craig, so it'd have to be MGM/Sony behind the move). I honestly don't care WHEN we get him if we DO get him. I can stand another one with Craig if I'm GUARANTEED Cavill is going to be Bond after that. What i mean is, I just want to be sure I AM going to see a freaking proper Bond again, and Cavill IMO is the only one who can guarantee that right now.Mazer Rackham wrote:Campbell is a funny guy he screamed at Brozza on the set of GE "you better not screw this up!!" suddenly he was kid gloves with Danno an actor people who know Campbell know Dan was not on the menu. He is right Cavill has a wonderful story the kind Hollywood can not get enough of, it'd be a perfect storm to have Craig "quit" February or March (after dvd/blu-ray release) then the ramp up to Superman be the ramp up to Bond 24 as well. A few think he might be signed already -maybe- they have all kinds of contingencies in place with franchise this big. At this point I wouldn't bet on it and I wouldn't bet on getting him after 2014 either.Alessandra wrote: Except it made about $525 million worldwide so far. Which DEFINITELY proves them right. With all there is still to go (more showings not to mention DVD sales and more than that all the merchandise, games and stuff related to it) they'll definitely make a profit. And not a small one.
The Q stuff is downright pathetic. I won't even get into it, it's a clear attempt to try and get something like the superhero movies that appeals to the younger demographic, except that's not what Bond is made out to be and least of all Q.
Meantime, Henry Cavill's Superman got MAJORLY positive reaction at Comic Con on Saturday. The movie is getting great buzz now after they showed the first trailer, and more than that, Cavill's personal success was HUGE. Same as Craig, huh?Henry was born to be 007, period. After what Campbell said (I saw you all OVERLOOKED THAT! shame on you!
) and with his natural charm and charisma, Cavill would really be a godsend for the Bond franchise... Sony and MGM better act QUICK.
This is Henry at Comic Con on Saturday. He's representing SUPERMAN, yet he looks more like Bond than Craig EVER will.
And, the net is going CRAZY with the Superman stuff and with photos of Cavill and Snyder from Saturday... I think (finger crossed) Henry really may be able to break the "Superman curse".
A lot rides on Skyfall, mediocre trailers, Babs and her boy lollipop out lying in interviews for whatever perceived reason, it's a mess. Q in the trailer is not Q of the series I don't know how people will react to it. Spyfall has to make 500m to 600m -minimum, with real competition this time it could be chancy. Not matching Quark/OOS B.O. would be disastrous. This is without concern to how well/badly the movie is received.
Cavill had the kind of reaction at comic-con Craig can only dream of, it's the kind of attention money can not buy and the studio does nothing but spend money on trying to rehabilitate Craig.
I honestly think the Spyfall trailers are terrible. As in TERRIBLE. But it's really unpredictable because we haven't seen the full movie and we don't know how it is or how people will react. So far, it really does not look good. And the buzz around it is so-so AT BEST. So we may finally see Eon pay the price for their ridiculous choices. but I won't wait with baited breath. I just want to be told "don't worry this is Craig's last, or penultimate in the worst-case scenario, Bond movie, and then Cavill will take over." That's it.
No kidding about the reaction. Cavill scored BIG with the Superman crowd and he always scores big with the crowd in general. He's naturally elegant and charming. (remind you of someone? Oh right, JAMES BOND!). No amount of money EON pays can give this to Daniel Craig, period.

I don't want him ANYWHERE near that uber trashy 50 Shades of Grey stuff (I don't think he'll ever even consider it) but anyway... those are the images from his Dunhill ads. IF that isn't James Bond... he's Bond, period. And he's not even playing Bond there. Just the quintessential elegant, modern, stylish Englishman (the producers of that ad said so... and they said they picked Henry because of his natural charisma and charm and the way he walks, confident and stylish. Yeah, thanks, that's James Bond).bjmdds wrote:Get a cold shower ready for our Ms. Bouvier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgrRNZJx ... sults_main

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
When it comes to directing James Bond films, nobody does it better than Martin Campbell. He brilliantly rebooted the spy franchise twice, making both Goldeneye and the first proper version of Casino Royale. Now, in the 50th anniversary year of the 007 films, the ultimate insider is revealing plenty of previously classified Bond secrets for your eyes only. The first of them is how close Daniel Craig came to losing the part to fellow Briton Henry Cavill, who has since been cast as the next movie Superman. Talking of Brosnan, Martin can finally reveal the circumstances behind Pierce’s departure from the 007 role after four films. He says it had to do, indirectly, with Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino. Martin, 68, says: “Casino Royale was not going to be the next film. They were developing another script but then, after a long battle, the Broccolis [the family behind the Bond franchise] suddenly got the film rights to the first Bond novel Casino Royale, despite Quentin Tarantino bidding against them.
“The script being developed, he says, was an original story in which James Bond isn’t the character we know today but someone younger and more screwed up. Pierce was getting on for 49 or something, and clearly too old to play the younger Bond so they decided to go in a different direction.”
As for Tarantino, he is still upset at losing out on the chance to put his stamp on the Bond franchise, saying: “It would have been my James Bond film and not a Cubby Broccoli Bond film and I would have done it with Pierce Brosnan.”

Did Eon have to bid against others to buy the Casino Royale rights? How much did they pay, and I'm surprised someone else did not try to outbid them.BJMDDS quoted

The Dark Knight Rises midnight box office: 25m+? The third and final installment in Christopher Nolan’s Batman movie franchise, The Dark Knight Rises, will likely earn more than $25m at Thursday midnight screenings in North America. That would place Nolan’s film among the biggest midnight debuts ever.
The source for the above information is The Hollywood Reporter, which adds that The Dark Knight Rises opened one minute after midnight at more than 3,700 locations. Beginning Friday morning, TDKR will be screening at 4,404 theaters, second only to The Twilight Saga: Eclipse‘s 4,468 locations in summer 2010.
Midnight box-office champ: Harry Potter
The current midnight record-holder in North America is David Yates’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which collected (a 3D-boosted) $43.5 million in summer 2011. The fantasy adventure stars Daniel Radcliffe, Ralph Fiennes, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.
The next three movies in line all belong to the Twilight Saga franchise starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner. They are: Bill Condon’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 with $30.3 million, David Slade’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse with $30.1 million, and Chris Weitz’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon with $26.3 million.
