Den of Geek said it too, but they said it was just a rumour, so nothing seems to have changed, as the same rumour has been going around since before principal photography began.

The studio’s reboot The Amazing Spider-Man grossed $35 million on its opening day in theaters ($7.5 million of that came from midnight showings, and $4 million from 307 IMAX screens), thereby beating the 2-D, IMAX-less Transformers, which earned $27.9 million on its opening day on July 3, 2007, and setting a new Tuesday box office record.
“We are off to an outstanding start here in North America with big fireworks still to come!” says an excited rep for the studio. The July 4th frame is always a lucrative one in theaters.
The $220 million action movie now seems headed for a six-day total above $150 million (Transformers earned $155.4 million in its first six days) — high above Sony’s internal expectations, which had The Amazing Spider-Man earning between $110 and $120 million during the Tuesday-to-Sunday period. Of course, there’s always the chance the picture could crumble from here, but that seems unlikely.

Even if Spidey reboot turns out well at the box office, I don't want another Batreboot. If you want a 2nd reboot to the franchise, try James Bond.

Who was this scantily clad nobody before this film that suddenly is deemed this by Eon's head stalk? Ale, her wardrobe, ridiculous attire? "In an exclusive interview, the gun-toting, piano playing beauty shares all on Sam Mendes' new direction for Bond". Once again talk of Mendes' NEW direction for Bond. This affirms the failure of the once great franchise. MP, save your dough. Let EA and the Sweeney dole out the British pounds first. FBF, you won't be disappointed by the box office tally of this Freudian nuanced Bond film number 23. You can shelve your ideas of Seagal, The Blue Man Group, etc., for this film looks like an utter disaster with Mendes. Shaken, keep stirring that pot of discontent. Omega, sell your watch after this product placement gets wasted. I'm sure Eon loved this comment out of her mouth:"Berenice recently joked she did not think British actor Daniel was sexy before she met him because of how dull he comes across in interviews."

To finish off that quote for you:

She said: '' What you read in the magazines is very boring, because that can come across as one-dimensional. Personality and what you have to say for yourself in reality is what's important. So when I finally got to meet him, he had such a beautiful nature, very grounded, a very nice personality and a fantastic sense of humour.

''He's truly a great person. All of those things are what makes someone sexy or attractive.''

I'm sure EON was just fine with that.

It will take more than just him and those vampires to destroy Bond 23. We'll need Rise of the Guardians, Les Miserables, and many others to do so.

They can spin off if its anything like the Kinghfall comic books the Batback breaks and he left Azreal in charge of the city.

Spider did well opening day I wonder if it will drop off much. No way in hell is does Avengers numbers Sony may have screwed up doing a early comparison to it. But if it works maybe re-re-rebooting becomes the thing. I could see 2014 being relaunch of 007 if Spider does big, Avenger numbers and they'd have to do it just because.

What about making Dick Grayson as Batman? He did became the Bat in the comics. The Bat is too good to be rebooted.

This might be the case FBF. We will know in 2 weeks for sure. Spiderman had a huge 31.7% box office drop off from Tuesday-Wednesday when most other films had a huge increase from Tuesday-Wednesday, July 4th, such as The Avengers, that went UP 31.9% on Wednesday. We will see what Garfield can pull off this weekend. Lights-Camera-Jackson's review:"There's is absolutely no mystery or suspense to "The Amazing Spider-Man". Everything's simple, straight-forward and right out in the open. In fact (and this is no spoiler), Peter tells Gwen about his secret identity on their first date, not even halfway through the movie. If you're expecting twists, layers and surprises in this script, you're watching the wrong movie. And that's one of the film's major problems. Yes, it's based on a comic book but most comic books have more drama than this.
As for the positives - the action scenes are very good and the visuals are top-notch, including the CGI. The 3D isn't the best and there's a surprising amount of intentional "in your face" 3D gimmicks, but overall it's not too bothersome. What bothered me a lot is having Garfield (28) and Stone (23) making believe they're 17 year old high school students. When is Hollywood going to get away from this practice of casting adults in their mid-late 20's as high school students. It's ridiculous and really hurts the credibility of the film. If you're going to "re-imagine" this story, either do it with younger actors or how about "imagining" Peter Parker as a college student.
As for Garfield and Stone, they're ok together, but some of their dialogue (along with other characters) is pretty corny. And there are way too many silly scenes, played just for laughs. Ifans plays the basic wacky scientist role and Sheen and Fields deliver the serious and important words of advice to Peter and the audience. The tone of the film is all over the place. As is the soundtrack, which is way over-the-top at times throughout the movie. And a couple of storylines are never resolved, one intentionally (setting the stage for the sequel) and the other not.
"The Amazing Spider-Man" is rated PG-13 for the action/violence and some language. It's appropriate for kids 12 and up. While the movie does look good the story just isn't exciting, fun or engaging. This "Spider-Man" clearly lacks bite. Maybe I've been spoiled by "The Avengers", because this Marvel effort isn't close to that film.
On The Official LCJ Report Card, "The Amazing Spider-Man" gets a C. For me it's one of this summer's biggest disappointments."

A monthly comic and a movie franchise are very different animals. A movie has to attract the casual viewers as well as the fans, which tends to lead to a "play it safe" mentality. Its the same reason I don't think we'll ever see that period piece Bond film that the fanboys keep calling for.

From Box Office Mojo:
In order to take full advantage of the Fourth of July holiday, The Amazing Spider-Man got a jump on the competition with a Tuesday opening. Through its first two days in theaters, the reboot has made $58.3 million, which puts it on track for strong grosses through the end of the weekend. 3D concert movie Katy Perry: Part of Me (2,730 locations) and Oliver Stone's Savages (2,627 theaters) are also trying to get in on the action a bit, though last weekend's winner Ted should wind up in second place behind Spider-Man.

The Amazing Spider-Man began its run with the highest Tuesday gross ever ($34.2 million) and then the second-highest non-opening Wednesday ever ($23.3 million). Through its first two days, its running a bit behind the first Transformers, which opened on the same day in 2007 and had earned $65.7 million to this point. That did include $8.8 million from day-early evening shows, though, so the numbers are a bit skewed. Amazing Spider-Man is also off from Spider-Man 2's $64.3 million two-day start, which was also a mid-week debut coinciding with the Fourth of July holiday in 2004.

While Amazing Spider-Man is currently trailing these comparable titles by a small margin, it's playing well enough at this point to put a definitive end to speculation that a reboot timed so closely to the original installments couldn't be successful. The Sam Raimi trilogy set a new bar for comic book movie grosses by earning $403.7 million, $373.6 million, and $336.5 million, and Spider-Man remains one of the most popular characters in the world. In the marketing materials, at least, Sony hits the sweet spot between taking advantage of the mighty brand while at the same time presenting something that appears new. There's an entirely fresh cast headlined by hot young talent Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) and Emma Stone (The Help, Easy A), both of whom appeal to men and women. They also introduced a new villain, The Lizard, who hasn't seen a big-screen incarnation and is close-enough to an A-list Spider-Man villain (similar to the Scarecrow in Batman Begins). Those changes, combined with the promise of seeing Spider-Man swing through the streets of New York in 3D, appear to be enough to retain most of the revenue, if not the attendance, of prior entries.

Ahead of release, Sony was forecasting between $110 and $120 million for the six-day frame. With two days of strong grosses under its belt, though, it looks likely that The Amazing Spider-Man winds up with at least $140 million by Sunday.
So the verdict seems to be that attendance is somewhat down on the Raimi/Maguire movies, but not by as much as some of us here (including myself) might have hoped.
