I'll bet Depp's salary was a big part of it. I believe he's now the highest-paid movie star. I'd also heard they were having problems finding someone to play the Lone Ranger to his Tonto, as there are few actors charismatic enough not to get completely acted off the screen, like Orlando Bloom was in Pirates of the Caribbean.stockslivevan wrote:Disney's The Lone Ranger got scrapped. You'd think the reason was because of Cowboys and Aliens flopping (I believe that's a part of it) but it turns out that it's because they can't make it with a lower budget than $250 million. Um, WHAT? How the **** does a western movie cost $250 million? Were there going to be Transformers in this flick? Is Johnny Depp demanding $150 million a film these days? WTF is going on at Disney?
$200-plus-million budget

An unfair comparison given that the Neeson/Brosnan film wasn't a tentpole film featuring aliens attacks. A better comparison for Seraphim Falls is probably True Grit which was made for $38 million and got back $249 million. That's roughly what a film like The Lone Ranger should be aiming for, but I guess Disney is more concerned of producing a film that would make a billion worldwide. I think they're better off without Johnny Depp, let him continue with the Pirate films instead.JackWade CIA wrote:$200-plus-million budgetSomebody is getting the money I'd bet for producing.
Pierce Brosnana's western,a far superior product to Cowboys & Aliens has a better story, charters and better acting from some very notable names didn't cost $20 million according to IMDb.
He's very good in anything that isn't a James Bond film. Have you seen The Fourth Protocol?BTW Pierce Brosnan's character is a bad ass in Seraphim Falls.
I need to see that, and I heard he's at his most darkest there.stockslivevan wrote:Have you seen The Fourth Protocol?
It's a good movie.FormerBondFan wrote:I need to see that, and I heard he's at his most darkest there.stockslivevan wrote:Have you seen The Fourth Protocol?
If Craig's comments on Bond 23 being more of a "classic Bond film" are anything to go by it may already be true. Not surprising given the mixed reaction to QOS.katied wrote:Apparently there is *definitely* going to be another Austin Powers movieAll the more reason for EON not to reintroduce some of the retro elements from the old films.
Didn't he say the same thing about QOS?stockslivevan wrote:If Craig's comments on Bond 23 being more of a "classic Bond film" are anything to go by it may already be true.
Given what he's saying now and what he said back then about QoS, I expect Bond 23 to be EXACTLY the same as QoS. His statements back when QoS was being filmed were the EXACT SAME he is making now "it's going to be great! A more classic Bond movie! I want to revive the role!". And yeah, we got that horrendous movie. Also, the role doesn't need to be revived DC, thanks. It needs to be TAKEN BACK TO WHAT IT WAS. Actual James Bond.He did mention though that the filming of QOS was a less than satisfying experience, and that it was ridiculous that the filmakers went into the film with a half cocked script.
I got the impression that he is doing Bond 23, as he hopes to revive the role from his perspective, as he did in CR.
Arthur Brain...havnt heard from him in a while..........i thought he was a good chap!bjmdds wrote:EA, where's Arthur Brain these days? Is he relieved to know DC days as Bond are now numbered? Has he been safe in the UK with the recent unrest? Bratton was my police commissioner under Mayor Giuliani. They both had big egos so he left but he knows his onions and should teach the cops in the UK to be more aggressive and cut out being afraid to fight back. Help is on the way: http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2011/08/su ... targe.html Sweeney, and all you UK residents here, be glad he is coming. He will show them how it should be done.
Probably just another bad actor, just like Swayze. So it won't be hard.Alessandra wrote:They're RE-making Dirty Dancing. I am outraged, I love that movie it's part of my childhood, and there they go and remake it, with the added insult that the actor who was the protagonist died only last year. Even not considering that, I'd like to know who the hell they think they can replace Patrick Swayze with.
It's not that people in Hollywood are running out of ideas, it's that they're scared of original ideas at all. Hollywood in recent years has become dependent on brand names because they're a lot more easy to market than original movies. Why make an original buddy cop film when you could do a remake of Lethal Weapon thus have a higher percentage of movie goers interested in something that is familiar? There's a good article suggesting that Hollywood truly is afraid to make movies like INCEPTION which is ironic given how good that did. And, the Footloose remake will be released in the fall. WTF? Nobody can be bothered to write an original screenplay anymore?!
They'll remake anything, don't be surprised. At this rate, they'll remake "Gone With the Wind", too. You just wait.
