I don't expect HP will do Avatar or Titanic, but I wouldn't be surprised if it surpasses ROTK's numbers. There's nothing special left in the world of Bond. Potter is today's escapism. When he's done, Bilbo will take up the mantle as the next action hero in the fantasy genre. Plus, Kirk and the Bat will join in with the Hobbit to save the world.Omega wrote:Everyone has something good to say about HP no way will it do Avatar but Titanic is a maybe.
Everyone excepts a few agree qos was a very bad movie, now it comes down to belief that the Bond people will remember how to make a good movie like LTD and GE. Knowledge from 20 some years ago, I think they can do I just don't think they will anytime soon.

What will Zack Snyder's Clark Kent be getting up to?
By Matt Maytum | Apr 18th 2011
Zack Snyder and project 'Godfather' Christopher Nolan have remained frustratingly tight-lipped when it comes to Superman: Man of Steel's plot details.
Now, Bleeding Cool (via Collider) have found a synopsis that's doing the rounds, and if true, gives a tantalising taster of how Snyder and Nolan plan to make Supes 'relevant'.
The synopsis runs as follows: "A young reporter named Clark Kent roams the world covering various news stories.
"When he is compelled to use his secret powers to intervene in a crisis in West Africa, he returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and the hero he was born to be."
As Collider points out, this is in keeping with plot details that were linked to casting calls. That breakdown read: "The plot involves Clark getting involved in some sort of battle between two tribes in West Africa.
"When he is compelled to use his secret powers to intervene in a crisis in West Africa, Clark returns to Smallville to learn more about his origins and the hero he was born to be."
While there's still no guarantee of authenticity, Baseline apparently have a strong track record with this kind of thing.
Having Clark roaming the world would at least make for a unique take on the origin story, as his time in Smallville has certainly been done to death (not least in the TV show of the same name).
It'll also be fun to see Superman helping out on a global scale, though we can't glean from the synopsis how much of the movie he'll spend travelling.
Surely this plot is going to draw comparisons to Batman Begins, which can't be a bad thing, right?

I wonder if Bond will not be behind the times once more using Africa as back drop, similar to 2006, the defibrillator tick, everyone had it too (and did it better).
My guess would be this is a short outline, I would bet Clark is worshipped after intervening and the frightened (or grateful) people mention a prophecy about a 'man of steel' from the sky. I would bet Smallville will be a short albeit pivotal stop over, I don't see spending time there in the movie when it was TV for the last 10 years.

Potter did almost exactly Qos numbers beating it by a nose.FormerBondFan wrote:How's that to CR's and QOS' respective overall numbers? I hope the HP 7.2's numbers stay that way or higher.Kristatos wrote:Initial estimates for Potter are $168.55 weekend gross. Actual figure due tomorrow evening.
EA, it's really great, and I know some may disagree, but it's the best fantasy movie ever since ROTK.
Titanic will be had to best, althou after this weekend I think finishing with Pirates 4 numbers would be disappointing. What is out next weekend?

Being a Brosnan loyalist, I give anything to the boy wizard, the Bat, the starship captain of the ENT, the Hobbit who will be recruited by Gandalf, and all other heroes from other franchises. But I take it one step at a time, starting this year with Potter, and mega franchises goes first.Blowfeld wrote:See... I told FBF harry didn't need me
If defending Pierce against those Pro-Craig minions isn't enough, I decided to switch sides with other franchises, and DCINB's endorsement of Happy Feet five years ago inspired me to do this.
HP 7.2 has to do a lot better than both Pirates 4's and Transformers 3's respective overall numbers.Blowfeld wrote:Titanic will be had to best, althou after this weekend I think finishing with Pirates 4 numbers would be disappointing.
Keep your fingers crossed that the finale's opening weekend gross stays higher than QOS' overall gross. And I hope it doesn't go through a big drop after this opening weekend like Part 1 did.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I suspect that film's appeal will be mostly domestic. Patriotic heroes, almost by definition, find most of their audience in their home countries. I suspect that's why Bond's patriotism has always been played down in the movies, unless it's played for laughs, like the Union Flag parachute in TSWLM.FormerBondFan wrote: Captain America comes out next weekend. Actual numbers for HP 7.2's domestic gross for the opening weekend is $169.2 million, but unfortunately, it went to a big drop from Friday to Saturday with 53%. Let's continue to give everything we have on this finale that HP continues to triumph over Bond (or should I say the series that is defiled and desecrated?), and I hope it doesn't experience a huge drop this coming weekend when Capt. America comes out. This patriotic superhero movie looks great and all, but my money's all on Potter.

This isn't just about HP's success against Bond's but rather other franchises' also. Batman, Star Trek, The Hobbit......you name them. If you don't buy into this, that's fine with me. I just want to see Bond (or should I say the spy who's been defiled and desecrated?) crash and burn as long as DC's around. Speaking alternative Bond franchises, here's another example of true escapism unlike DC's Bonds:Kristatos wrote:Again, I don't think anyone except you believes there's any connection between Harry Potter's success and Daniel Craig as James Bond.FormerBondFan wrote:I hope you're right. Daniel Craig is like a Dementor of the Bonds, He's sucking the Life from the series.
along with Babs as Voldemort and Mickey as, ( well nobody really ) he has no power anymore, He can just concentrate on his Cameos. and a nice milky drink !

On that note Tommy Wiseau for bond or the bond villain.
Blofelt: you are tearing Me apart james bond
bond: mumble mumble mumble
Blofielt: it's hard to understand what you're saying, maybe if you speak up
bond: I said MUMBLE MUMBLE MUMBLE vesper etc MUMBLE.
Bond 23 will be creggible (terrible).
If you gave Creggs bond a giant nose and elf clothes you've got grumpy (one of the seven drawfs).

I just saw HP 7-2. Well done film. Amazing how such little color is in an epic color film for if done in black and white you would not really lose much. Well done FBF.
