Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
No it hasn't aged well. I always laugh when James Bond pulls out one of those thick cell phones in TND but that is part of the charm, CR dated way fast. My problem with it is it took it self too seriously, it is hard to forgive the dating becuase it was so serious. Pretentious, preachy in a way. That with the old retired mailman being mistake for the you man parking cars is just stupid.

I liked CR( saw it a dozen times in the movie theater and praised it to the high heavens to anyone who would listen(oh the folly of fandom!). I've seen it on TV recently and just watching a glimpse of it is enough to confirm that it has not aged well at all.

One look at his horrific mug, with that cemented hair to his cranium, did it for me. I wanted Brosnan for 2 more films and that video of him arriving on the speedboat wearing the life preserver and stepping off of it and saying "That scared the s--t out of me", iced the cake for me. He is a hideously inane drone as Bond!Ale wrote:I meant to answer all of the above but the last one has me

Just for the record, I hereby declare that I have NEVER, not even for a minute shown any proclivity towards the Cr-egg. EVER! I disliked him with a passion from second one. James is my witness since we used to have some epic discussions with the pro-Craigers back in the day when he was cast

MP, as someone who once loved Cr-egg as Bond, to one who now despises him in the role, can you pinpoint WHY you 'initially' preferred him, and was it a 'long arc' process of his face defragmenting the original image you had of him?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Yes. he was my "type". I like tall men, preferably blonde ones(thank you, Simon Le Bon-you're the reason I have a "type"
). As for rejecting him.I think it was a gradual thing. True, I did flip flop a fair bit, but I am firmly in the anti-Craig camp now.And would not go back.

Some of the changing of minds on Daniel Craig as Bond is due to the miserable Quantum derailing the reboot. Some started to before Quantum after watching Casino Royale after a break from it. My guess would be the newness wore off I think a lot of people were glad to have a story based movie that didn't rely on gadgets to save the day and didn't kill time with cringe worthy puns and jokes. I think after the euphoria of a new Bond wore off a few of those who rewatched Casio were stuck by the unBondness of it. It is not the same Bond as Dr No and that can be a sticking point when tying to put Casino in order with the pre-reboot series.

Red Dwarf is wonderful, although I was not such a big fan of the last few BBC series. The last Dave special was good and hopefully the new series will be too.shaken not stirred wrote:Why does that pic remind Me of the cheesy romance in casino royale with bond and vesper..except the cats acted better in that scene.
Captain, I'll read your casino royale review later on m16.
Ale I've got a lot of haters, from videogames I used to enjoy before they turned into shooters and mainstream, to music going down the crapper, comedy pretty much non existant in the uk (not that I'd complain if a hater got a beating with stilletos, after that you could say they're shoefaced, hides)![]()
Off topic any red dwarf fans here?, I saw Craig Charles, Robert Llewllyn and Angela Bruce a few years ago in Norwich (first time), wish that event was recorded at the time and I could've been on youtube because I did good impressions of lister and krtyon and made them laugh, (took a lot to see them due to Aspergers) if I could act and they needed a double for kyrton if they bumped into an earlier model I could do the part but that probably won't happen, I'm a massive red dwarf fan and it was a priviledge to meet some of them, hopefully I'll see the rest of the cast someday or get tickets for filming of the latest series in november (fingers crossed).
Seeing as Eon are thinking about using Red Sky as the title for Bond 23 and the short Craig is back, perhaps they could use Red Dwarf as the title for Bond 23?

I, too, wanted Brosnan to come back. When faced with alternatives I said Hugh Jackman all the way, and Cavill then (I didn't know Cavill well enough at first but quickly made up for it

What he said after the speedboat thing made me put the final nail on the Craig-as-Bond coffin. Not only he was absolutely inadequate in terms of looks, he proved he was absolutely inadequate in terms of attitude and lack of politeness/charm as well. That was so low... saying something so out of place at the very first press conference. And he certainly didn't show any better interviewing skills later on. I still don't understand how all the rest of EON let Babs get away with this. It is BEYOND me. Really, bunch of spineless people, much?

This is actually a good and thought-out explanation for it. I think many people got way too excited reading "gritty Bond" and "Casino Royale". I knew the movie was going to be horrid for me (I know many like it, I never have) the moment I read the script. The script conveyed absolutely none of the Bond charm, it had no wit, no sparkle, no nothing. I expected it to be nothing like a Bond movie should be, and it was. Sorry to those who liked it, I don't frankly see more Bond elements in CR than there are in QoS. They both suck, even if it is for different reasons. And even if QoS is clearly a far worse movie than CR.Some of the changing of minds on Daniel Craig as Bond is due to the miserable Quantum derailing the reboot. Remember what we were discussing a couple of weeks ago and last week? Babs is fighting with everyone, especially with MGM, and the situation is very tense. Also, there still is no freaking deal in sight for either the distributor OR the needed 50-50 production partner. But of course everything's going GREAT and speedy for Bond 23.Someone made the point at the Alternative 007 forum, it is worth repeating 'what happened to all the Bond 23 news?'

If there is no traditional Bond available for the 7th Bond, to hell with the franchise and bring us more films based on Narnia and Middle Earth.

Very nice cover images there FBF. The second one especially. Love it. If there is no traditional Bond with Bond actor #7, well I have a feeling I will focus on Superman
But, don't give up hope... sensibility, strange as it may seem, may strike EON as well in the long term (which after all these years of Craig is DEFINITELY long).

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I already gave up on Bond ever since Pierce was booted. But I will give it a chance if the public is leaning towards Henry or someone who is traditional as Sean and Pierce at their respective era. Plus, the 7th Bond needs to be around Henry's age or someone a little younger, and the 7th needs to be someone young enough to last up to 10 films.Ale wrote:Very nice cover images there FBF. "Queequeg Jaws"? He looks like the Moby Dick harpooner from Gregory Peck's version!
A great villain for Cr-egg FBF. You have done it again. He can play Jaws' long lost half brother who was commissioned by Quantum to kill Bond in the next film.
