The Bond of now would never have lasted the 45 years if it was the original. There is a mood of wanting Bond so 'radically' different now that people are hyped for that. How long this 'current' trend will last will be dictated by the success or the failure of the next film.english agent wrote:Yes things are different............but this applies to all films.
Don't forget Bonds be going for over 40 years now, but i do agree
that some of the magic has been lost over the decades...............
unfortunately with modern film making, i dont think it will return.

I doubt very much the Bond of the 70's would have lasted 45 years either. Different times for different Bonds. Right now, CR fits in perfect with today's times.bjmdds wrote:The Bond of now would never have lasted the 45 years if it was the original. Moore's Bond of the 1970s, if that was the origin of the saga from LALD, for example, certainly would have more 'legs' to it's survival than Daniel Craig's Bond of 2006. You don't need to look any further than young Skywalker's views to corroborate this point Sweeney. Moore lasted 12 years as Bond. I doubt your 'hero' Craig could sustain such a run. If he could, Bond, as we 'knew' him, no longer exists, nor is he desired, by the public.

Of course, CR fits perfectly now. When people are classless.I doubt very much the Bond of the 70's would have lasted 45 years either. Different times for different Bonds. Right now, CR fits in perfect with today's times.
BOND sells, NOT CRAIG
The reboot is a risky area, did Eon need to do it? NO. Did this confuse alot of people? YES.
The Bond character will always be anchored in the values of the 60s

Care to back it up? Clearly, you aren't above all people to say such a thing unless it is of course your opinion.Jedi007 wrote:Of course, CR fits perfectly now. A ridiculous, ignorant and quite frankly, stupid comment there, Jedi.

Jedi is simply saying that Eon have changed Bond from the English gentleman type to a more "working-class" everyman type in order to appeal to more people. Craig's more "working-class", ordinary looking Bond has been a success - which is why Eon changed the Bond character for Royale.

The BBC-America channel just aired Layer Cake. After watching this, I find it hard to believe that Broccoli singled out Craig's role in this ridiculous film as her reason for selecting him as Bond. I would love to know what anyone found remarkable, or even enjoyable, about this particular film, aside from Sienna Miller's looks?

The real joke is, Carl, that most sane people get a 'make-over' to look better, not worse, physically! Craig IS the least visually appealing of the 6 Bonds. It took the work of Eon's money, together with their political pull with the media, to get him on magazine covers, in best dressed polls, etc., to pull it off.carl stromberg wrote:Jedi is simply saying that Eon have changed Bond from the English gentleman type to a more "working-class" everyman type in order to appeal to more people. The film is fairly confusing in parts, and overall the story tries to be too clever.bjmdds wrote:The BBC-America channel just aired Layer Cake. But Craig's performance is pretty d**n cool in it. Even if he looks relatively thin in the film, I can see why he was chosen as Bond because of this particular role. He also had the coolest role in Munich (perhaps intentional by Speilberg, an avid Bond fan himself, once rumours were out that Craig could be the next Bond.)

Still doesn't explain why many women fancy him though (countless actresses have gone on record saying this).bjmdds wrote:The real joke is, Carl, that most sane people get a 'make-over' to look better, not worse, physically! And he has still pulled his fair share of good-looking women too - Miller for starters!

Sweeney, you are by no means naive. It is his 'celebrity' these women fancy, not his face. Look at Howard Stern, a real ugly mess of a man, yet, engaged to Beth Ostrofsky? Or Dennis Rodman with Carmen Electra, or Kid Rock or Tommy Lee with Pam Anderson, etc.....and so on.....IF Craig was selling furniture in a store, these women would run and hide....yet, the same cannot be said of the previous 5 Bonds, all fairly handsome sorts. Agree Sweene? The Sweeney wrote:Still doesn't explain why many women fancy him though (countless actresses have gone on record saying this).bjmdds wrote:The real joke is, Carl, that most sane people get a 'make-over' to look better, not worse, physically! Playing a drug dealer who gets beaten up and later killed is 'cool'?The Sweeney wrote:The film is fairly confusing in parts, and overall the story tries to be too clever.bjmdds wrote:The BBC-America channel just aired Layer Cake. Plenty of cool characters get beaten up in films, and/or get killed. Newman in The Hustler gets beaten up, Bob Hoskins in Long Good Friday gets killed, Butch & Sundance both die, Caine in Italian Job gets beaten up, Pacino in Carlitos Way gets killed, Washington in Man on Fire gets killed, Caine in Get Carter gets killed, etc.bjmdds wrote:Playing a drug dealer who gets beaten up and later killed is 'cool'?The Sweeney wrote:The film is fairly confusing in parts, and overall the story tries to be too clever.bjmdds wrote:The BBC-America channel just aired Layer Cake. I thought Craig came across as the coolest person in both LC and Munich.

Although my wife would probably pick Craig over Moore, Lazenby and Dalton any day of the week - that's women for you!

That's it! It's only his body that gays and gals alike found appealing!I've got blonde hair, I guess.....wish I had his body though!!
BOND sells, NOT CRAIG
The reboot is a risky area, did Eon need to do it? NO. Did this confuse alot of people? YES.
The Bond character will always be anchored in the values of the 60s
