I think we realised a long time ago that Daniel Craig was a bit on the short side to be James Bond.

The whole matter with his first wife was so sad. Poor Pierce. LOL it's quite the thing to go to mass and think "hey, I'm at mass with 007!"
I had no idea who he was at the time, if you can believe that!I only made that discovery 4 or 5 years after the fact!

Craig looks like he is about 5'8"-5'9". imbd.com lists him at 5'10", but I am skeptical of listed heights from watching them be overly exaggerated from playing and following sports. He maybe 5'10" with shoes on. That puts him around the same height range as McQueen.

As far as Bond goes, I think Cubby preferred the actor playing Bond to be tall. I'm not sure what Cubby's parameters were. Maybe at least 6'0" with shoes on?

All the actors Cubby cast were over 6 feet tall. It's one of the reasons why he didn't go along with Guy Hamilton's plan to cast Burt Reynolds as Bond in Live and Let Die.

Didn't Craig play an American in Road to Perdition? I can't remember now, but I think he did...
He was not in the film for long. :)

2006 also had Superman Returns a film I can't remember if it is reviled or revered. The critics loved it I thought later on it became anathema to fans.
I remember hearing a rumour they used some sort of digital process to help Brandon Routh look like Christopher Reeve, I've always wonder if some sort of process wasn't used to help make Craig look tougher, more like Steven McQueen than his usual um.. self. You know they guy who is afraid of guns and fast cars. Possibly why the brutality in CR was overdone.

I went to Cubby's memorial service in Leicester Square, so have been in the same room as Dalton, Moore and Brozza......and Q, Moneypenny, etc.
The only person I spoke to though was Carolin Monroe (had my photo taken with her too.... :happy spin: )

Bond is supposed to be 6 ft (from books).

I didn't write that in order to start a debate over his height, as in we all know he's a bit on the short side to be Bond.. I was just giving evidence out, seen as I had experience in person. I think he is around 1 mt 76 cm, something like that. Which yeah, would be like 5 ft 9. He's most definitely not 5'10'' as he wasn't as tall as I was with heels. Listed heights are a strange thing. Sometimes they list tall men as shorter than they are. And then they list short men as taller. Just stupid. I don't understand the point of it, besides. Sooner or later, you see them next to someone else and realize they're either taller or shorter than what they're listed at. I never checked how tall Jonathan Rhys Meyers is according to IMDB. Henry Cavill is 6 ft 1 and he towers over him in scenes in the Tudors. There is one in particular where they play tennis that is funny because when they are next to each other, Rhys Meyers looks like one of the Smurfs next to Cavill. Not just shorter but much "smaller" (shoulders etc) in general, like a miniature  I always found that funny. Yet I bet they list him as tall on IMDB. In fact.. just checked and he's listed at 5' 10''. If he's 5'10'' Cavill would have to be 6 ft 2 at the very least, seen the difference in height between them (10 cm at the very least). Why do they do that? I really don't get it. When they're on screen it doesn't matter, until they need to be next to someone else and anyhow they'll find ways to get round it and not make it look like they're shorter than others when needed... What's with the cheating on height thing? I really don't get it.

Well that's great! (not the memorial service, poor Cubby, the photo! LOL)

I have a very hard time understanding why fans would loathe it. Routh sure as hell looked the part, and I thought it was a very good movie. I guess the whole "Lois is married with a kid" thing didn't sit well with them? Which, I can understand. I'm not a diehard Superman fan but I AM a fan, and I've seen all the Reeves movies at least twice. I thought Routh was very good (and very good looking) in the part. And I remember reading good critics, in my opinion deserved. I'm curious, why did it then become anathema to fans? (I can understand the Lois thing, but all the rest was good IMO).
I had no idea who he was at the time, if you can believe that!I only made that discovery 4 or 5 years after the fact!
 you had NEVER seen Remington Steele? I take it you noticed him because well, he looks too attractive to go unnoticed?

Scherzo! (i joke) :D

I wonder if Craig has to stand on a box in some scenes, i believe other actors in the past have had to do this!

Buonasera EA!

LOL truth is I start typing then start doing something else. Then, I get back to it an hour later and meantime another 10 people have posted so in order not to post ten times and answer everyone I just cram it into one, and it becomes a longass post  Sorry about that!

I just wanted to specify this wasn't about Craig and his height, I think we're all aware he isn't very tall, I just specified what the impression was in person seen as I had first-hand experience about it. And yeah, I am baffled by this whole "cheating on height" thing. Do they think we're so stupid as to not understand when someone is not tall? There's a very simple way of noticing: look at the legs. You can immediately tell whether someone is tall or short from the legs. Yes, men included, and yes definitely easy to see even when they're wearing a suit or pants, not just if they're in a bathing suit. And look at the way they film them.

Short actors are never EVER shown next to tall people in a way that gives it away if the script requires them to look, well, tall. For example, Paul Newman, short, wasn't often filmed next to Robert Redford, tall, in a way that gave it away how taller Redford was than him. The just always got round it. And when he kissed actresses, well it's a close-up, so you can't see what's happening below!

Oh hell yeah, they have had people stand on boxes, more than once. I don't think Craig needs boxes, he isn't THAT short. He's just not very tall. Arterton said they put lifts in his shoes sometimes, I think that was for specific scenes where they were obliged to show him next to Bond girl in a certain way. Otherwise I'd say it's enough for the girl not to wear heels (believe it, in scenes where you can't see, the girls are often wearing flats instead of heels even when the actor is tall... just for comfort reasons). It depends on the actress, too. If they're like me "Born with high heels" like my sister-in-law says, then no way they'd wear flats when nobody can see. Besides, flats look horrid with a nice dress, especially the ones Bond girls usually are in

Anyway... lo so che scherzi, ci mancherebbe. (ha, learn this one... I'll explain)

According to 'celebrity' statistics Paul Newmen was 5' 9", and so was Steve Mcqueen.........i must admit i also felt Newman was taller than that.
Anyway they did a good job of putting that fire out in that 'towering inferno' in 1974.

I typed in the phrase above into the 'Bat computer' and the computer said 'No' (where have i heard that before?)

The nearest translation i got was 'I know that joke, was lacking' not very clear is it...........am learning Italian not Klingon! :D

So.............what does it mean in English?

Back to Bond, I presume you've seen a Bond film in Italian. How do the dubbed / translated voices come over, do they enhance or hinder the films, compared to when you've seen them in English.

No need to rush to answer! :D
