Same here. The HP movies are long, but they're well worth it.(also:I go to a theater with comfortable seats! )

The first half of HP 7 will release on November 2010, and the second half will release on the summer of 2011, marking the series' 10th anniversary. Also HP 7 is the last of the series.

I found HP6 a tad disappointing, to be honest. It seemed more like an aide memoire to the book than a satisfying film in its own right, as did HP 4. HP5 was better, due to the script being by a decent writer (ie not Steve Kloves).

All the movies from Prisoner of Azkaban onwards have had to leave things out. The first two books were relatively short, and so could be filmed more or less intact. PoA had to make a couple of cuts, like the origin of the Marauder's Map, but still made sense. Goblet of Fire and the latest one made no sense to anyone who hadn't already read the books (which, fortunately, I have). Order of the Phoenix cut a lot out, but I thought Michael Goldenberg was much smarter in his choices than Steve Kloves, who is guilty of ignoring the cardinal rule of adapting a story from one medium to another - that the writer's first loyalty is to the adaptation, not to the source material. With the exception of the rather abrupt introduction of Mrs. Figg at the end of the opening sequence, OOTP worked better as a movie in its own right than either of the films that surrounded it. Hopefully, splitting HP7 into two parts will mitigate Kloves' tendency to just rush through the novels without any regard to whether the resulting edited highlights work as movies. I'd still rather have had Goldenberg back on scripting duties, though.

In the cinema: Ice Age 3. Quite enjoyable, and I liked Simon Pegg's insane weasel character, but I can't help feeling that the Ice Age franchise is starting to lose its fizz a little.

On DVD: Just watched The Wild Geese for the first time in a dog's age. I'd only ever seen it on TV before, so this was the first time I'd seen it uncut. It was therefore a lot bloodier than I remembered it, but a good action movie nonetheless, if a little slow and talky in the first act. Maltin's guide says that Richard Burton was miscast, personally I think he was perfect in his role, as were all the cast (with the possible exception of the kid playing Richard Harris's son, who was wooden and annoying).

No that is not very high standard to topple. What G.I Joe does have in its favour is that Michael Bay was no where near it.
