The Whatculture site talks up Skyfall again:

http://whatculture.com/film/skyfall-10- ... tender.php

Among the reasons Skyfall is a contender for Best Picture nomination:

--Mendes: "Never does Mendes’ direction waver; he is utterly assured both when it comes to the stoic dialogues, and more surprisingly, the frantic action sequences, delivering at the film’s finale what is easily one of the best climaxes to any Bond film ever."

--Logan: "Alongside its immaculate direction, Skyfall is also one of the most intelligently-written Bond films to date, and that’s largely thanks to the addition of playwright John Logan to the team.... Thematically potent and surprisingly emotionally resonant, Logan elevates the Bond series to new heights, ensuring the super-spy bounces back after the murky characterisation of the last film."

--Bardem: "Simply, Bardem delivers one of the best villains in Bond history."

-- gravitas: "Skyfall isn’t just a great blockbuster with a fantastic script, it’s a great blockbuster that’s loaded with gravitas and emotional resonance, two of the components that generally hold-back “mainstream” fare from landing in the Best Picture bracket."

A note about Whatculture: in this post it refers to Quantum of Solace as disappointing. Yet, the site has previous run a story about "XX reasons Quantum of Solace is a great James Bond film."

Bardem IMO was not one of the best villains in the history of the franchise, maybe since the reboot he is, I realize this movie is not made for me but when you stop to think about it there are a lot of plot holes.

Maybe it will win I just don't think it will because of the kind of movie it is, AVATAR was snubbed and it single handedly saved Hollywood in a bad year. But they are doing a tribute to Bond.
IMO MGM is going to try to cash in on the hype by putting the blu-ray out in store shelves before the Oscars, at least in the UK (meaning blu-ray rips hitting the intent in the next two weeks), I'd say maybe the 19th in the US or 22nd if they want to go for a weekend of the awards deal. But I just don't feel like this will be the one Bond movie that gets an award because it has done too well at the BO. And everyone know where they took their inspiration.

Maybe the Oscar will give the shooting victems and TDKR some love.
"We are very happy to include a special sequence on our show saluting the Bond films on their 50th birthday," this year's producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Chicago) said.

"Starting with Dr No back in 1962, the 007 movies have become the longest-running motion picture franchise in history and a beloved global phenomenon."

James Bond is done as far as the classic and traditional Bond actors are concerned. Leave the Bond role to the red heads (no, not Rupert Grint), minorities, freaks/weirdos, actors with prosthetic limbs for all I care.

Yes.............i remember Bruce Lee and Kung Fu was really big in the UK in the early to mid seventies.
I remember as a young teenager trying to sneak into a cinema to watch 'Enter the Dragon'.........but was kicked out by the manager coz i was not 18 years old..........haha.
It would of been great to of seen Bruce Lee together with George Lazenby as was intended in a film...................but alas it was not to be due to Lee's tragic premature death.

Enter The Dragon is a definite James Bond movie to celebrate. The James Bond franchise is a complete joke now, and so is the Oscars.

Just now they became a joke? Man they've been a joke for a long while.
I don't like calling them a joke just because Spyfall might win something, we don't even know if they will be nominated. Its childish to trash talk them because you hate Craig, if Pierce gets a nomination for anything you will be the first cheering him on.

Diss the academy awards for what they are and have been for years.

I would be cheering if Pierce gets a nomination, but I wouldn't go crazy like those minions are.

Was just wondering if anyone here posted at 'MI6'

I recently re-joined the 'Mi6 website'.............and i can in all honesty say, what a bunch of muppets they are.

There is an inate hostility to anyone who joins there who has a view or has facts on the Bond franchise which contradicts what the herd mentality want to believe in. I came to the conclusion that they are SF fanboys there foremost.

You even get warnings if you post more than once in a row!......and to think i used to dislike this place initially......funny how things turnaround.
I mean we all have our different views, but at least people here are friendly to each other!

English Agent, that doesn't surprise me one bit.

MI6 has always toed the EON company line. I remember being SAVAGED(sorry for the all caps but I need the emphasis) for suggesting that EON could possibly be paying off people at MI6 and elsewhere. Turns out there's more than a bit of truth there.

I came here through a link posted on IMDb last summer, and the person who posted the link referred to this place as a "retarded site". But contrary to what that person said, I think that this site has a pretty good community, who can have some decent James Bond-related discussions. With most of the other Bond forums, it's difficult to have a constructive discussion without the fanatics tearing you apart for having different thoughts/opinions. And God help you if you're a fan of Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan.

The new MI6 is a bit difficult to navigate and is not the same as the old MI6 forum. I looked at it today and there was a big thread suggesting that the MI6 members write to Barbara Broccoli thanking her for Skyfall. I don't think we will advocate that. :D :D

Enter the Dragon is one of the best movies ever made. I hear that DCINB's Goldeneye is holding a martial arts tournament on his island this year......

I haven't been back to MI6 in a long time. After the original site folded deleting my account and before skyfall.
After CR they wanted Craig to get a huge bonus and the movie car for free so thanking her for Skyfall batman begins 4 is not out the realm of indoctrinated group think. I don't care how good the movie is you don't "write to thank" the producer, it is their job to make a watchable movie. I can't think of any other fan group that I know of who has come up with something like this.
I remember others saying how they had company men post anomalously at MI6 this kind of thing smacks of it but it's probably not.

Looking at the Oscars I've been reading at a few places and Lincoln seems to be everyone favorite for almost every category (having watched it yesterday I agree it is a overwhelming film), one other places I go has poll with the Hobbit in the lead, followed by Lincoln and life of pi. I think some of the Skyfall talk is maybe a little too early, and might not get it just because of the tribute .

I think the thanking thing is separate too. It smacks of desperation.

IMO they want to be recognized by her so I guess this kind of thing makes sense.

Have you seen Django yet? I'm thinking of going tonight while I'm still near a town with theaters big enough.
