I recently saw Quantum of Solace on TV and found it unwatchable - the camera work on the chase scenes for example - with a ludicrous script and an unbelievable escape from an exploding burning building at the end. I watched to the end but it left me unmoved and wondering why I bothered.

It also lacked all the features of the James Bond genre like the theme music and the one liners.

My question is whether Skyfall is worth watching or whether it is simply another unwatchable and very poor Quantum of Solace.

Judging by the reviews BJ, I think Skyfall will be a very different film to QoS.

Skyfall is nothing more than EON's personal gain, and that movie has those two words written all over.

Just a quick hi to everyone: I am not a hostage of EON and neither have I left this site, I never would! I am just RIDICULOUSLY busy and I have zero time to write something well thought-of on here! I wouldn't worry about the reviews, for now. These are all from those who went to the premiere, so clearly they're all going to rave about the movie. That said, IF (which is a big if) there are indeed the old, CLASSIC Bond elements in this movie somehow, I will be pleased, not displeased. Thing is, from what I've heard from those who have the same approach to Bond as I do, there aren't. And actually, it seems like the second half of the movie in particular risks killing James Bond for good (that's what they said, I haven't seen a thing so I can't issue a judgment myself). But still, I always have that insane glimpse of hope that EON learnt something from their mistakes (like the ludicrous spectacle that was QoS). So who knows...

Hold down the fort, people... and don't despair. James Bond WILL be back (the actual James Bond, that is) ;)

Ok, working back at BBC....and going to see Skyfall at Odeon Leicester Square tomorrow. I have much higher hopes this time round than I had for QoS. If the reviews are anything to go by, this may be a terrific Bond movie (not what everyone here wants to read, I know).

I will be waiting for your thoughts on the movie, Sweeney!

I am literally, and I mean literally, SWAMPED with work and things to do... it's been a ridiculous couple of months here. I don't even know how we are at the end of October already  I have zero time for anything, including sleep  And not because I have Henry Cavill entertaining me! Glad to see you back and in good spirits. I am curious to hear what your thoughts are after seeing the film. We may disagree on the general approach to Bond, but I respect your opinion, so I will be listening carefully.

It will be rather interesting to read the reviews. No UK TV specials for Skyfall/Bond which is a surprise.

This is not my wording. This is from a review website by one of the posters who stated their opinion. I never watch anything Cr-egg related. Sweeney, do you accept this newly reinvented combo of MP and Q as they look, or not? If you do, going along with your acceptance of DC as Bond, you agree with a reinterpretation of an ICONIC characterization change. We don't, and neither would Fleming who wrote the d**n series. Broccccccccccoli wants to bolster her reputation by defaming another's greatness. Unacceptable :!:

Dude don't look well. I can feel for him if he was sick, it can be hard to have to be somewhere and feel like crap. At the same time if it was the crowds and lights, he needs to consider a career in radio.
Funny thoughts about the sweating pictures of Craig, one he has old man hair, seen from a distance its like hey somebodys grandpa is sick.

Our boy does PR so well  Second time he's damaged the brand by looking seasick. And the second premier where his actions diminished the occasion. I mean aside from the time he had more caked makeup on his face than a drag queen

Non-spoiler comment: this is the first review that suggested the much-discussed script isn't that good (while mostly praising the movie). But I thought that extra year was supposed to help.....

I'll find out for myself in two weeks.

Well they rushed it out. Ideas for a script, outlines are not the same as a finished script. The poor bloke who got saddled with the job had to rush it out. A Red Bull diet may have given him wings but it doesn't mean his writing is worth a s**t.

A proud moment!!

For those of you with a SKY Movies subscription it’s a pretty good time to be a Bond fan especially if you have HD. A couple of days ago, I was sat on the sofa finishing off some work whilst casually watching Moonraker. My oldest girl (2 and a half) came in, sat down beside me and started watching it. Normally she would just ask for ‘Toy Story’ or ‘Finding Nemo’ but instead she was transfixed to the screen. I informed her that that the character on screen was James Bond. Later on that evening (following bath time) she openly asked for Bond again in preference to anything else.
“I'd like to thank the Royal Marines for bringing me in like that and scaring the s--- out of me,” Bond Hardman Daniel Craig.

This is proof of the destruction of the franchise: "James Bond is set to return to cinemas in 'Skyfall' tomorrow, but it promises to leave the franchise "shaken and stirred" as it completely transforms the outdated aspects of 007 in time for the spy's 50th anniversary. And Naomie Harris, the self-professed first ever "Bond woman", has been a big part of that...

Naomie Harris is set to star alongside Daniel Craig in James Bond film 'Skyfall' but, unlike previous Bond girls before her, her character - known for now as Eve - is an entirely independent woman.

To get some idea of what we're talking about, it's worth looking at what Naomie Harris said at this year’s Baftas about her role as a‘Bond girl’:

"I just said, 'Well, I’m going to change that to Bond woman!'"

And, according to The Telegraph, it seems as if Bond producer Barbara Broccoli completely agreed with Naomie's reimagining of the Bond heroine:

"It’s outdated... I think the women in the film have evolved like women have evolved in society – and about time, too."

And, from what we've already heard about 'Skyfall', it seems as if Naomie Harris has definitely injected some of her own iron will into her character. She won't be writhing in an impossibly skimpy outfit. She won't be breathily gasping "Oh, James!" every five minutes. She, in short, won't be a Bond girl at all - she'll be a completely evolved Bond woman.

In fact, it seems as if Eve is a gun-toting field agent on a completely equal level to 007 himself. The same risks, the same grit, the same determination to succeed."
