Not too hard to believe when you consider who is directing this, and the solid cast on board. The weakest link is usually the scriptwriters, but it sounds this time round this is fairly decent too.

Everyone here hates Craig as Bond, but he is obviously doing something right in Skyfall, as critics cannot praise him enough for his role as 007 this time round.

While members predominantly don't like Craig and Bond, don't say everybody. In my case, it's one of the few Bond message boards I've encountered where you can discuss Eon honestly without being called an idiot, a heretic, etc. Obviously, the number of folks critical of Craig as Bond helps. In my own case, I'm not upset as much about Craig as about some aspects of Eon.

I do think that Eon has been chasing prestige and "respect." I think that has affected some decisions that haven't worked out: hiring Forster for Quantum and, initially, Peter Morgan for what would become Skyfall. Forster boasted about sneaking his political views past Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli in an interview with New York magazine as Quantum was coming out. Yet, they still asked him back for Bond 23 around the release of Quantum. Stop and think about that for a moment: somebody has made you look less than astute in a very public way and they still wanted him back.

Here's the link: http://nymag.com/movies/features/51819/

Key quote: “It’s like I worked under this political regime with extreme censorship,” Forster plainly admits, describing his arrangement with Bond’s producers, the infamously controlling Broccoli family. “I had to subversively inject my ideas to make the movie my own."

Morgan, in a 2010 interview after his involvement with Skyfall concluded, talked about he didn't feel Bond was relevant anymore. Then why take the job? (Aside from a nice paycheck, of course).

The interview was on YouTube but appears to have been yanked. Among the quotes: He said Bond was dated and and not sure it’s possible to do it … I do think the absence of social reality in the Bond film…if they fix that, or they get that of if they get that in a script, which I’m so hoping they will, where you can actually believe in him, that he isn’t just a person in a dinner jacket…he is a creature of the Cold War, Bond….I just personally struggle to believe a British secret agent is still saving the world.”

Now, you can make the case that "respect" chasing worked for Casino and appears to have worked for Skyfall (I say appears because I haven't seen it and can't make a real judgment yet, aside from noting the unusual number of positive reviews). And, for better or worse, you can't expect MGW and BB to make decisions exactly the way their stepfather/father did. They are different people with different perspective. But there aren't many message boards where you can even bring up the subject without being subject to all sorts of personal attacks. While most folks here don't like Craig, you can still keep the exchanges light without it becoming nasty.

Plus, this site has all sorts of neat emoticons. :007:

UPDATE: Well, the Morgan interview was still on YouTube but wasn't working for me.

Here's one part of it:

Around 3:30 mark he talks about Skyfall a bit.

Here's another part, Skyfall section starts at 0:15:

Critics in Hollywood do NOT define a FUN Bond film to enjoy. They never did. They just don't get it.

No, but in terms of how they opened probably are, as they were riding on the goodwill crest of a wave created by the film before it, despite how good these films were on their own merits.

I have not seen Taken 2 but I can imagine its pretty awful judging by the reviews, and although QoS scored higher on RT, it is not a particularly good film. Many fans and even critics regard QoS as down there with DAD in terms of how bad it is in the franchise.

Yeah, Taken 2 wasn't that good. A shame too.

There were many things wrong with QoS, the political undertones being just one of them. I haven't agreed with many of the things EON have done since Cubby's passing, but it sounds like finally Babs has tried to make a Bond film with the fans in mind this time round with Skyfall.

From the info I've gleaned out of the reviews currently released, this is a film which has finally achieved what EON have always tried to do (even back in Cubby's day) - a blend of cinematic Bond and Fleming Bond, a combination of humour and dark, action and drama. Somehow the elements have been thrown in the mix this time round and Mendes has managed to make them work within a Bond film.

This is what it sounds like anyway from many of the reviews I've read, but I'll find out myself this Friday. My ticket is booked for Odoen Leicester Square, 5pm showing.

I am sure you will love it Sweeney. Just be honest and admit you cringed seeing Bond's body fancied by a depraved male psychopath. Mark my words, this film wants the viewers to feel empathy for the poor villain, who through no fault of his own, was wronged by the British government as a lad, so he went astray to a life of revenge and crime. It seems Eon loves to bash governments and so does DC.

It's not the first time. Seemed like Red Grant had a thing for James. Of course, there was so much wierd sexuality in that movie, it was hard to tell.

This franchise is now deader than Rob Schneiders career & it's a derpy one at that, wake Me up in the next century when we get a real bond or someone who has the balls makes a new kind of bond like the originals so I can leave this sadly dead franchise alone, what a waste, journalists will eat up anything, enjoy the film sweeney and I don't wish you any hard feelings, even if it has some of the old school elements to Me I've been fooled twice and I won't be fooled again, the crazy people are clearly running the asylum in the media, eon and wherever else these days, roll on ironman 3, thor 2 and anything else that doesn't leave Me wanting to take a cyanide pill, what a load of depressing crapola, what a dull time we really live in right now, all serious and no fun :(.

Craig can will all the awards, positive reviews he wants, I'm done, this's merely a franchise for babs sexual fantasies now, nothing more.

The Avengers is the only Bond we have right now. And the same can be said with Resident Evil games. Speaking of Resident Evil, I watched the gameplay of 6. So far, it's scarier than 5 in my opinion but has a slight Bond-like atmosphere.
Craig can will all the awards, positive reviews he wants, I'm done, this's merely a franchise for babs sexual fantasies now, nothing more.
Might as well have Marty Feldman for Bond.

The Bond series hasn't been enjoyable for me in a while. The fun and appealing characteristics that the classic films had is no longer part of the current direction, and therefore makes it a chore for me to watch. But anytime you try to voice your opinion against the new direction, you get attacked about being tasteless, or too simple-minded to understand the artistic quality and whatnot. Well, I'm sorry, but I just don't find this new direction enjoyable or entertaining as the classics. I've tried, but I just can't get into them. But the producers really don't seem to care about the customers like myself, and it's frustrating. After all the money I've spent on James Bond, I really feel rejected. What's worse is that I can't even go to the Bond video games to get my classic Bond fix thanks to Activision turning everything into Call Of Duty.

FBF, now that Harris is MP I am officially done with the franchise. It's a joke. Sweeney, how do you like the creepy new Q and the miscast gun toting MP? Eon has officially destroyed the franchise. FBF, I am ready for that new avatar we discussed. You ready too?

Only if our fellow Americans are stupid enough give their money to see Bond 23 and/or to give the movie nomination(s) for big American movie awards.

She won't last she will have to go as soon as the next Bond comes along, I don't care for her casting more over I don't care for the origins story they are trying to give her.

Since Eon's Bond 23 is no longer James Bond, we can start the discussion on other new franchises, right FBF? Casting Rumours:
Funnyman Simon Pegg is rumored to play Ant-Man. Simon Pegg stated that he would like to play a Villain rather than Ant-Man himself when addressed on the rumors about his casting in the lead.
Adrien Brody is top choice for Ant-Man. Marvel Studios have talked with Josh Holloway about playing a lead role as Ant-Man.
Michael C. Hall is another candidate to play Ant-Man.
Benedict Cumberbatch is up for a role in a future Marvel Studios film, possibly Ant-Man.
Jared Padalecki is rumored to play Ant-Man. (I do not want Adrien Brody as any superhero.) http://screenrant.com/marvel-ant-man-ca ... ob-183438/

It's never too early. It's not about Classic Bond VS Rebooted Bond anymore. It's about Bond who is a shell of his former self vs The League of Rebels,
which includes Indy, The Bat, Supes, The Boy Wizard, Ethan Hunt, Bourne, the Trek crew, Middle Earth creatures, the vampires, The Girl On Fire, Narnians..........you name them.

We need Pierce in a superhero realm perhaps as a bad guy.
