What do you think of The Man With the Golden Gun?
This is normally low on the list of Bond fan rankings, down with a View To A Kill. You will not be surprised to find that I like it.......

I think it's pretty bad. Christopher Lee was seriously underused as Scaramanga. We should have had more Bond vs Scaramanga on this film instead of redundant horse crap like J.W. Peppah, Miss Goodnight, the ninja school, ect.
Such potential wasted for camp fodder. I hear Saltzman wanted over a hundred elephant shoes to be shown on Bond. WTF were these people on?! You go from classic '60s to utter embarrassment.
At least it had potential and Christopher Lee despite what a mess it was, which can't be said the same for the Brosnan films.

Re: The Man With The Golden Gun
The Man with the Golden Gun was obviously influenced by the kung fu movie craze of the early 70s, and it did have lots of potential as you say.
Probably would have been more exciting had Lewis Gilbert been director.

Actually this movie would've suited Lazenby since he was into martial arts and did a few kung fu movies in the 70s

George Lazenby did 4 kung fu movies in the 1970s, Stoner (1974), The Man from Hong Kong (1975), A Queen's Ransom (1976), Death Dimension (1978). He was also to star opposite Bruce Lee in one of his films, but then sadly Lee unexpectedly passed away before that project was made.

And here is of course Bruce Lee's most famous movie Enter the Dragon (1973), that became his most popular one in the west.

I remember an interview where Lazenby talk about Bruce Lee I never realised he was so close to making a film with him.Count_Lippe wrote:George Lazenby did 4 kung fu movies in the 1970s, Stoner (1974), The Man from Hong Kong (1975), A Queen's Ransom (1976), Death Dimension (1978). Didn't he study martial arts under Bruce Lee?Blowfeld wrote:I remember an interview where Lazenby talked about Bruce Lee, I never realised he was so close to making a film with him.

Lazenby met Bruce Lee in 1972, Lee died in 1973 four days after Lazenby signed the contract four film contract to start opposite him. It was supposed to be Lazenby's big comeback after Bond.Kristatos wrote:Didn't he study martial arts under Bruce Lee?Blowfeld wrote:I remember an interview where Lazenby talked about Bruce Lee, I never realised he was so close to making a film with him.
Lazenby and Lee by all accounts become fast friend, Lazenby went on study under Lee and was supposed to have dinner with Lee the day Lee died.

It wasn't a great movie, with the idiotic Solex Agitator, but it did have Christopher Lee, and that amazing car jump...diluted with the stupid slide whistle sound effect.
It's worth re-watching, unlike Moonraker, Octopussy or Die Another Day.

I never knew that. I read Steve McQueen was good buddies with Lee too.Mazer Rackham wrote: Lazenby and Lee by all accounts become fast friend, Lazenby went on study under Lee and was supposed to have dinner with Lee the day Lee died.
Back on topic, TMWTGG has its decent moments. I love the first part of the movie, in Hong Kong and Macau. Moore plays Bond with a harder edge in this movie than any other (including FYEO). The fight scene in the room is one of Moore's best too. The film descends into silly parody momentarily when Sheriff Pepper turns up to spoil things, but overall I quite like it. And it gave us one of the coolest villains ever.
