Give up Sweeney, BJ will spin it back into the "it didn't make money" and ignore the points you bring up again. Don't you see how much the fact that Craig's films have been successful enough to insure a healthy tenure is absolutely mind boggling to him? He can't accept that Craig has made his mark on Bond in a positive way. He'll just throw the old doom and gloom over and over and over. Even if Craig's third film becomes a big hit, BJ will find something, anything, to belittle it. Because it can't be successful because of Craig, it can't possibly be. All his other films flop, people must not possibly like Craig as Bond! It doesn't matter that every other Bond actor went through the same thing of having flops outside of Bond. BJ will still exploit whatever little thing that looks bad because that's all he can do after two of Craig's films have brought in over a billion dollars. You say hooray, he says boohoo, and Craig gets another film up and running. The Sweeney wrote:There's two different points being made here. The profit margins BJ has been outlining may or may not be correct. Maybe Sony spent too much on QoS, maybe they'll struggle to make a profit because of this, and maybe some of it is down to the current recession we are in now. No way would Sony spend this much money had QoS been filmed today, due to the global financial climate.LilleOSC wrote:So you disagree with bjmdds' numbers that QOS is losing EON money? The Sweeney wrote:So far, CR and QoS has pulled in more money worldwide than Brozza's first 2 films. The way its looking, QoS will beat GE too, making Craig's 2 films bigger at the BO than any of Brozza's films.
Looks like Craig is more popular than Brozza. Who would have thought it.....
But the point I'm making is to do with BO figures alone, and comparing it with Brosnan's BO figures. Do you disagree that Craig is not as popular than Brosnan at the BO?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Craig and Brosnan are as popular as the films they are/were in. I believe that CR was popular, but I stand by my argument that the sharp drop offs show that QOS is less popular and that its box office is largely propelled by huge box office opening weekends that reflect CR's popularity, not QOS's. Question for those that study these things: has any other Bond film been that front-loaded?The Sweeney wrote:But the point I'm making is to do with BO figures alone, and comparing it with Brosnan's BO figures. Well according to the box office numbers when you compare the Bond films, it looks like Craig is more popular than Brosnan after 2 films, which you mentioned earlier. Craig's popularity might drop off if his Bond films continue to receive mix criticism like QOS did, but a lot of people still label him the "best Bond."The Sweeney wrote:Do you disagree that Craig is not as popular than Brosnan at the BO?

The underlying political anti-UK/USA government theme appalled me in this film, especially for a Bond film. I am SURE Craig/Forster/Haggis/and Ms. Broccolli all embraced it.

Since when did a corrupt CIA agent equal anti-US? That's like saying that having a character like Koskov equaled anti-Soviet.

There are many faults with QoS, but I didn't really find that to be one of them.bjmdds wrote:The underlying political anti-UK/USA government theme appalled me in this film, especially for a Bond film. I am SURE Craig/Forster/Haggis/and Ms. Broccolli all embraced it.
I've always been a big fan of 70's conspiracy thrillers like Redford's Three Days of the Condor, All the President's Men, etc. which don't put the US in a particularly good light. Even more recent ones like Enemy of the State, Spy Game, and of course, the Bourne films. Anti government themes don't affect me at all, in fact I find it quite exciting in movies, if it's done right.
But QoS has many other faults. I don't really find the anti US theme to be one of them.

Probably not. But that was not the reason why I found the film disappointing, regardless.Kristatos wrote:That's the problem. It wasn't.The Sweeney wrote: Anti government themes don't affect me at all, in fact I find it quite exciting in movies, if it's done right.

Again, I recall a government agent being corrupt but not the entire government itself. During the ending M informs Bond that Leiter replaced the corrupt agent's position in the CIA after the Bolvia fiasco, and Bond says something along the lines "so the good guys win".
If that's anti-US, then Sheriff JW Pepper is too.
Still, the most blatant anti-UK Bond film has to be for Never Say Never Again, with its savage description of Britons as insignificant buffoons.

I recall YOLT's portrayal of Americans as overly paranoid morons sending their astronauts ahead of schedule just to see if they get captured, preparing to fire nukes at Russia, even though they have zero proof that it was actually them.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
TBM down to 357 USA theatres and a paltry $380,000 over the weekend. Done and Done. It quite possibly might tank in Japan as well. Bottom line, it under performed CR, and no spinning it, Eon got swelled heads over Craig and thought a blockbuster would emerge in his second film, and were proven wrong. MGM, NOT MGW, will have a HUGE say in who is Bond in the next film. There probably will be a 3 year hiatus now with these less than stellar profits. The international market was more telling than the USA markets, which did surprise me.

No they won't, not after both films have collected over a billion dollars. And now that QOS has passed CR's gross unadjusted, MGM, EON and many others will boast it as "the most successful Bond film" and nothing will stop them from making Bond 23 with Craig unless God himself strikes them down.bjmdds wrote:MGM, NOT MGW, will have a HUGE say in who is Bond in the next film.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
You keep saying QoS is Done, D-O-N-E and done (weeks ago now), yet it is still going, still trickling in the numbers, only inches away from surpassing Brosnan's most successful film, and still yet to be released in Japan.bjmdds wrote:TBM down to 357 USA theatres and a paltry $380,000 over the weekend. Let's all judge how well QoS has done when the film is finally pulled from all theatres worldwide, and the official numbers come rolling in. Until then, its just wishful thinking on your behalf that this film has flopped at the BO....
