Yep. And the people at MI6 specifically are *vicious* towards the hacks that are writing the bad reviews...like it's a surprise to them that there are people that don't like it :?

Unfortunatley for you though, bj, Craig is still getting almost universal praise from these new reviews, even if they don't like the film itself. The ones who don't like Craig are definitley in the minority now.

You seem to be overlooking this fact. Craig is actually one of the saving graces of QOS (if we are led to believe in these negative reviews).....

Fascinating comments about Craig being the strongest thing in the film but lacking charisma as Bond. I sort of know what he means. His stoic and wit free Bond is starting to irritate after one film. He's part of the problem.
You wonder as well how Craig will feel about returning as Bond for a second time when he sees the results of his labours on the big screen.
Fingers crossed.

Bond meets Bourne meets Rambo

From the moment Quantum of Solace begins, alarm bells ring.

The movie starts where Casino Royale ends; Bond fleeing at breakneck speeds in Siena from Alfa Romeo-ensconced gunmen with a bound and bleeding Mr White in the back of his car. The mountain passes, roadside explosions and villains in the boot sound like the ingredients of a classic Bond intro, but where is the exposition? Even the pre-title sequences that traditionally feature the end of 007's current mission have more depth than the mountainside chase, which is quickly followed by a rooftop pursuit that makes the film look like an unofficial entry in the Bourne franchise before the opening credits have even rolled.

In Quantum of Solace, novice action director Marc Forster is again trying to break the mould of earlier Bond films. Whereas in Casino Royale this saw Martin Campbell go back to Bond's roots with a comparatively low body count, raw action scenes, Caribbean locations and high stakes card games, in the latest entry Forster has opted to take Bond into Jason Statham territory.

Earlier Bond staples (Q branch, Moneypenny, martinis) are still wisely missing, but the new direction championed in Casino Royale is very, very unwisely abandoned.

Action films often work best when under a very simple premise or a single concept, in Quantum of Solace, writers Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have fallen into the trap of letting the plot get away from them. Even given its real-world setting and believable villains, the story – something about Quantum chief Greene wanting to control underground lakes in Bolivia – is a mess, and incompatible with what viewers were led to believe would be Bond's pursuit of vengeance over Vesper and his willingness to go rogue.

Sadly for cinemagoers, but presumably happily for MI6, Bond doesn't lose his cool or feel compelled to hand in his badge to pursue his lover's killers.

In fact Bond doesn't feel anything much at all: he sniffs at the demise of Gemma Arterton's underused agent Fields; dumps his friend's body in a dumpster ("He wouldn't have cared") and drinks to forget.

Craig's Bond is a stony-faced killer - an outlook which matches his occupation - and while his performance as 007 is the film's strongest point, his lack of charisma may eventually leave viewers just as cold.

You wonder as well how Craig will feel about returning as Bond for a second time when he sees the results of his labours on the big screen. The Bond of Quantum of Solace is not the spy he signed up to play in Casino Royale.

In the end, confusion over what it is trying to achieve and its callow director makes Quantum of Solace to Casino Royale what Tomorrow Never Dies is to GoldenEye.

5.5/10

Another review. I put it in the DC section in full. http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/m ... 4638899.jp

Best quotes?
It's no surprise that many of the behind-the-scenes crew have close ties to the Bourne franchise. At times, the similarities become more of an imitation, and unfortunately for Bond, his American counterpart does it far better.

the ramshackle plot unfurls with no sense of urgency and all of the adrenaline pumping through the film's veins dissipates, building to a deeply-disappointing final showdown in Chile.

Quantum Of Solace pales next to its predecessor, lacking a compelling lead villain or coherent storyline.

Craig's lead performance, which was unconvincing in Casino Royale, is even more cold and aloof here, and virtually starved of emotion.

the 21st-century 007 is in danger of severing all ties to his glorious past, losing the gadgets, double entendres and the charm – indeed, everything that made us fall in love with Bond back in 1962.

Everyone seems to coming round to our point of view!

This may be my own biased spin on the reviews, but I do feel the critics are saying Craig does quite well playing the action character he is playing in QOS, but it's a dull action character and not Bond.

As Terry said, everyone is bored with Craig's new "Bond" character after one film.
Bring back Bond!

Basically. The pro-Craigs (some of whom are more invested in trying to make us think this movie is a masterpiece than others) keep trying to find positive reviews...and failing.

There are plenty more positive reviews out there, but I cannot be bothered to post them here anymore. I'm preaching to the uncoverted, and never will convert, so I personally have given up trying. Just about every positive review I've posted on here has been ignored anyway, and the focus stays primarily on the negative ones (which is understandable, given the site we are on).

So continue rejoicing that there are now plenty of negative reviews out there as well as positive ones. They've depressed me no end, and I've not even seen the film yet. I don't like the idea that a Bond film could be awful, especially before seeing it. The fact that DAD was bad depressed me no end. I didn't take pleasure in the fact that DAD was an abysmal film. I found it upsetting, whereas you lot are as happy as pigs in s**t with these reviews. I just hope I can go in to the cinema on Friday with an objective head on now, and try to see the film as what it is, without letting any of these reviews sway my opinion.

I personally am tired of trying to fathom out whether this film will be any good or not by what I've read. If we are led to believe the reviews, we are about to see the worst Bond film ever, and the best Bond film ever. I just want to see and judge it for myself.

Sweeney, again credit where credit is due:You're not as hysterical over the bad reviews as some pro-Craigs here.

If it feels like we're gloating, sorry.

Hopefully you *will* like QOS and it'll live up to your expectations.

We are not gloating. Those of us who have been rather critical of Craig's new Bond since we saw it in Casino Royale feel our views are now validated.

Sweenster, was I mocked on MI6 6 months ago and told to get lost with The Bourne Mimicry title? Who was proven correct? You still do not get it my friend. We are totally depressed here with CRAIG AS BOND and JOYFULLY accept that the critics have come to their senses and panned this trash concept for what it is:a stolen concept! Why can't you see that? Your delusions over Craig saving the franchise for a decade have come to an end. He will destroy it now faster than saving it and Broccoli had better get her rear end in gear and correct this problem before "Craig's Mimicry Egg" he will now lay damages the essence of what the prior 5 Bonds brought to the table:Tall stature, class, charisma, charm, with a license to kill. Craig's Bond needs anti-depressants. No one recognizes this as a Bond film, can't you see that?

There are as many positive reviews out there as there are negative ones, so to say `no one' is wrong. This is the film that is dividing critics at the moment.

Will it divide the popular fan base on MI6 and CBn too? In a couple of days we'll find out.....

We await your review as soon as you see it in 2 days, but I warn you, as Dr. Zaius tells Taylor at the end of POTA, "Do not look for it Taylor....you may not like what you find.".......I await the bootleg DVDs on streets of NYC shortly after.....

Over at Cbn they've now turned on Graham Rye for having the incredible nerve to write a review of QOS. They've either never heard of him or think he's a 'sleazball' . These numbskulls know nothing about Bond. They've never even heard of 007 magazine. They've spent the best part of three years now digging themselves into an absurd revisionist position full of bizarre notions such as James Bond was not supposed to be handsome and Bond films shouldn't include jokes. Cubby's formula was indestructible. The Barbara/Haggis/Craig formula seems to have lasted for one film.
