Brosnan still looks great!

Wishful thinking. On what basis would there have been a Lazenby protest before OHMSS came out? That he was ugly? I'm sure fans would have debated his performance afterwards. Roger Moore would have provoked debate later on for his take on the character and length of his tenure but I doubt there were many people in 1972 complaining about Roger Moore being short or fugly. There is a fundamental inability amongst the Craig supporters(kool-aid drinkers) to acknowledge that he is a departure from the cinematic James Bond...and yet this is supposed to be his biggest strength.

So, did anyone see Brosnan on the Ellen talkshow on Wednesday April 30th?
Brosnan could still very easily play James Bond, his face is still younger looking than Craig's, and hair dye works great.
Also, Ellen did say something along the lines of "Your always our favorite James Bond," and the audience responded with a fairly loud round of applause.

Moore, Dalton and Brosnan were possible Bond candidates years before they took on the role because they had the James Bond look. Lazenby was cast because he had the James Bond look, and the Connery look.
No one mentioned Daniel Craig as a James Bond candidate befoe 2005, even though virtually everyone is traditionally linked with the role. That says a lot. When he was linked with the role in 2005 I thought it was a joke rumour along with the Ewan Stewart one. Let's face it, you could not find anyone who looks less like James Bond than Daniel Craig.

Like I said, subjective. To me Daniel Craig looks like James Bond because he's handsome and rugged. The complaint I heard the most about Craig not "looking" like Bond was the color of his hair. Now people (except for a certain vocal minority) see Daniel Craig as James Bond.

Nobody is right or wrong on whether Craig looks like Bond or not. If Craig was a 400 pound fat guy with long curly hair and sideburns wearing a T-Shirt that says "I eat toe jam" then he wouldn't look like Bond.

Reminds me of this wonderful work of art I created last year.....Eye Of The Tiger wrote:Brosnan could still very easily play James Bond, his face is still younger looking than Craig's, and hair dye works great.

But seriously, there would have been a lot for people to complain about with all the actors. There always is.
I get that Daniel Craig isn't pretty boy handsome. But he looks good in the part because he's playing the part. I acknowledge that some of his non-Bond photos do not impress me but I don't care because as Bond, I believe him.
As someone else said, looks are subjective. I think Lazenby is soooooo very handsome. But many find his chin off-putting. But I think he is one perfect looking man.

But he isn't, though, he's just recycling his performance from Layer Cake. And the people who always slam Moore for playing Bond the same way he played The Saint are the ones going gaga for it, even though Simon Templar is much closer to Bond as a character than XXXX was. When I first saw that publicity picture that Stocks posted, I thought "he looks like he belongs in a Guy Richie gangster flick, not playing Bond". And I wasn't far off the truth (LC director Matthew Vaughn being Richie's former producer, and obviously influenced by him), though I didn't know it at the time.retrokitty wrote:I get that Daniel Craig isn't pretty boy handsome. Well I didn't see Layer Cake until after I saw CR a couple of times. Although I could see how a casting person would see that performance a good audition for Bond, I find the characters very different - and at different stages in their careers. In LC, the character was getting out of the business. In CR, he's just getting into it.Kristatos wrote:But he isn't, though, he's just recycling his performance from Layer Cake. I like Sir Rog so have never had an issue with his Bond or bringing The Saint into it. I find a lot of actors bring much of themselves to their roles. However, Daniel Craig has a much wider range than Sir Rog did. I do believe that we will see that in the next Bond movie.
I think everyone's feelings about Craig and his take on Bond are valid. They are your own feelings and personal taste. But, I just think it's too bad that by stressing the negative so much, and wishing so much for a new Bond, that one might be missing out on some of the enjoyment in the latest film.
It's not a perfect film but it was entertaining and I did get as excited about Bond throughout as I have in about 5 other Bond movies. It was not all Craig's doing but he certainly didn't take away from it at all.

I think the whole "let's find a bad pic of Craig to make a point" routine is old. I could use a bad picture of Brosnan and say "a-hah! he's too old!"

Yet when polished up, he looks fine. Why should an actor look exactly like Bond when he isn't playing Bond? Isn't that for the movies? That would be like saying Connery doesn't look the part just because he's bald. What about when Lazenby sported a beard at the premiere? I remember the press went all over that and said he looked un-Bond like.
I find it silly that even members would say "oh Craig is just wearing make up, don't believe in the spin" yet when Brosnan is doing that it's approved?

Well, Brosnan IS older than DC by more than a decade. I wouldn't be that keen to watch a James Bond film with a fifty-eight year old Pierce Brosnan walking around but it's a bit disturbing that he can still scrub up well enough to look suaver than the much younger man who replaced him. The casting of Daniel Craig was made even more risible by the notion that we were supposed to regard him as a young, fresh, inexperienced Bond. I wasn't completely adverse to that idea but I might have gone along with it if they'd cast a young actor who looked like James Bond.
The make up thing is just a bit of a joke; based on the spin that the permanently foundation-caked, eyeliner wearing, chest waxed Craig is a simple rugged return to the hairy-chested, real men of other eras after pretty boy Pierce Brosnan.
Well, contrary to popular belief, most people here didn't walk into CR wanting to dislike it. It's not a case of sabotaging our own enjoyment of the film, for some of us, there was no enjoyment to sabotage. I have since seen it again on pay-per-view and enjoyed it even less the second time, whereas I can watch most Bond films over and over again. I hope QOS will be better, but I am less excited about it than any Bond film I've seen in the 30 years or so since I was first introduced to the series at the age of 11 when YOLT premiered on British TV (actually, I was already aware of Bond by then - I wanted to see TSWLM in the cinema, but my parents thought I was too young).retrokitty wrote:I think everyone's feelings about Craig and his take on Bond are valid. The top photo posted was a look NEVER seen in CR. It was spin publicity prior to the release of CR.stockslivevan wrote:Like I said, subjective. In reply, the reason I post alternative pictures of Craig, is that the reality of the situation is one of the reason's many people feel he is not right for the role. This is a forum based on members not either liking or wanting Daniel Craig as Bond. The fact he is currently playing the part validates recent photos of him. By continuingly posting pictures of Brosnan now he is no longer in the role is irrelevant. Whilst as Bond, I can't recall anyone questioning his looks or physique as he was ideally suited.stockslivevan wrote:I think the whole "let's find a bad pic of Craig to make a point" routine is old. But one of the arguments some people have is that Pierce Brosnan could still play James Bond.Skywalker wrote: This is a forum based on members not either liking or wanting Daniel Craig as Bond. I beg to differ. He's simply to old for the role now. Did a good job in his three films...we know where I stand on the fourth, but that time for me has past.
As for his looks and physique, whilst I have never to my knowledge commented on it, Pierce was starting to look old in DAD. His arrival at the ice palace when he gets out the car and makes his joke about Mr.Kill springs to mind.
And his horrible entrance into the hotel in Hong Kong. Not only further from James Bond as I can imagine. Bond would never enter a hotel with his pyjama top un-buttoned like that, but I can't imagine Bond entering a hotel in pyjamas. Anyway the point I was going to make about that scene is that the man boobs have appeared and the stomach is probably bigger than it should be...for Bond. Just my spin on it anyway.

That's a fair point, Skywalker. Like Nash said, the only point in posting pics of Brozza looking too old is to emphasise that he should not return as Bond, but the point you make too is valid.Skywalker wrote:In reply, the reason I post alternative pictures of Craig, is that the reality of the situation is one of the reason's many people feel he is not right for the role.
