Would Albert Broccoli have picked Daniel Craig?
If Albert Broccoli was alive today do you think he would have picked Daniel Craig as James Bond?

Agreed.Kristatos wrote:I have my ideas, but on the whole, I'm not a big fan of presuming to speak for the dead.
I hate it when fans debate about crap like this as if their word were most likely and factual. There is no answer, only speculation. No one would ever truly know. Cubby might have liked Craig, maybe he wouldn't have, we'll never know. Much like how we'll never know what Gene Roddenberry thought about Trek post-1991, what Walt Disney would have said about today's entertainment, what would happen if England got nuked in 1998, what if there was no internet. Cubby's friends and family would even speak for him, but we still won't know.
However, I can imagine he'd cast anyone and be happy. He almost cast JAMES BROLIN FFS. He made some good decisions (going with Connery), and he made some bad ones (going with Roger Moore), but in the end he made a profit out of it. Just goes to show he'll go with anything that brings him the almighty dollar, and with Craig's first film selling the most tickets since LIVE AND LET DIE, Cubby might have locked Craig up and forced him to sign a contract until the day he died.
But we'll never know. It's fun to talk about, yet pointless since there will never be a conclusion. This kind of crap will stretch not only with Craig debates, but on his successors even if they meet up to BJ's standards.
I wouldn't say going with Moore was a bad decision. Moore made some of my least favourite Bond films, but I can at least see why Cubby cast him, as he was already well known from The Saint and Ivanhoe. I think casting Lazenby was a far worse decision. Seeing a guy in a TV commercial and saying "we should cast him as the lead role in the world's most successful movie franchise" is just nuts.stockslivevan wrote:He made some good decisions (going with Connery), and he made some bad ones (going with Roger Moore)

If Cubby vetoed Burt Reynolds for not being tall enough and Sam Neil for not being handsome enough then Craig wouldn't have stood a chance with him. I honestly don't believe Cubby would have ever considered him because of his looks. He wouldn't have seen him as a James Bond type. I know I don't.

And add the men that Cubby nearly cast as Bond like Michael Billington, James Brolin and John Gavin. I think his main rule of casting was to get someone who was handsome and reasonably suave.

Yup just you.Red Grant wrote:Connery/Dalton are relaxed like theyre too cool for school while Craig looks like someone pissed in his cereal! Sorry but that's just the way it looks to me.stockslivevan wrote:What makes him look pissed off? He has the same expression as Connery, while Dalton is looking amused.

Hi,
I finished reading Casino Royale yesterday, then immediately watched the Living Daylights and Casino Royale back to back.
Daniel Craig looks like a tough ex-SAS chap or how the Flocked Hair,Eagle Eyed Action Man I had as a kid would have looked if he were to come alive, but sadly not as Bond!! I like the guy, admire the fortiftude required to go for a complete physical makeover etc but he just was so wrong!!
Dalton ,on the other hand was very Handsome,Suave, functionally fit and could look very very dangerous and cruel when required,a perfect Bond. The ladies would look twice at him,he would be able to fit into snob circles with panache and also look very ruthless while sighting down a snipers rifle!
'nuff said!

I don't think Harry Saltzman would have chosen Bond.
