Classic Bond on Blu-Ray - WOW!!!

The Blu-ray Bonds look magnificent but the extras are ported over from the DVDs and the menus are identical to the latest DVD release. MGM did the least amount of work possible to churn these out.

If it wasn't for the 1080p PQ being extraordinary and the AQ being astounding I wouldn't recommend them.

God help the Blu-ray format!

Another playback problem for new Blu-ray releases.

Bonds not playing in numerous Profile 1.0/1.1 players and a few profile 2.0 players.
This includes numerous Samsung players, Sharp, LG's and Sony's.

Sources at Fox (MGM's US distributor) claim playback failure of 007 For Your Eyes Only is due to an authoring error - a corrupt JAR file that some players can deal with and others cannot.

No word yet if there are issues with the Sony authored Blu-rays available in the UK and elsewhere. (Sony is MGMs distributor in the UK.)


The only problem free player continues to be the PS3, which is problematic for the format as a whole.

Unfortunately you are right. With as many problems as occurring for Stand Alone Blu-ray players it's hurting the format by burning the consumers who just want to watch the d**n movie!

If things continue Blu-ray could end up a PS3 video format.

Until Monday there is a Bond preorder blu-ray special. The down side is it bundles Quark with the other movies.

Also Amazon has been dropping their prices after the date of release and there probably will be better promotion for these movies later. If you don't want to risk it go for it now.
