It's took a while...
After months of toying with the idea I finally decided to take the plunge and watch ‘Skyfall’. As it’s commonly aware, I’m no fan of Daniel Craig and his interpretation of Bond and this view was rubberstamped with quite possibly the worst Bond performance of all time in the Quantum of Solace. The previous instalment had left such a bad taste in my mouth I simply had no urge to watch Skyfall and another wooden Craig performance.
Surprisingly, I had refrained from reading any reviews and apart from knowing who starred in the film and the fact Dame Judy was finally being despatched I had no pre-concepts of how the film would be. The choice of Sam Mendes was a good one so whilst I wasn’t overly keen on seeing Craig as Bond I was intrigued to see how Mendes would approach the film.
So the PTS commenced and I’ll admit I enjoyed the sequence. An edgy beginning, action packed finale with well-choreographed stunts and the added bonus of Craig being shot. If only it was a couple of inches to the right…..A new Bond!!!!
As the film went on, I found myself being engrossed in the storyline and at no point was I thinking “I wish someone else was playing Bond”. On reflection, I found this strange as I had become accustomed to despising Craig’s portrayal of Bond and felt un-comfortable with the fact I was enjoying a Bond film with him in the starring role. Maybe I was just getting used to the fact he has been cast as Bond for so long or I have lost the will to complain anymore, but despite his ageing looks, this film and his performance felt far more ‘Bondian’ than at any point since he got the gig.
A definite plus point for me was the direction from Mendes. He even got me appreciating Dame Judi’s performance which is no small feat!! I liked the casting in general and film flowed much more smoothly than Craig’s other 2 outings. Hopefully Mendes will get more opportunities to direct as for me he regained the spirit of Bond which I felt had been lost.
In summary, Skyfall was a massive improvement on anything Craig had done previously. I wouldn’t go as far to say I was now a fan of his and neither would I particularly want him to film anymore, but I did like the film and to be fair to him, he was a big part of it.
Rating 8/10 and the only Bond film starring Craig I could watch again.
p.s. Craig still sucks!!! Long live DCiNB.

Skywalker!!! I'll need you to hand in your badge and your gun!
All kidding aside it is great to see you! How is the family doing?
Alessandra and Mazer to single out two other members had similar opinions,[paraphrasing here] something along the lines of this movie being the best of the Craig films more Bond like than his previous movies although still not truly a Bond movie.

Cr-egg's films in totality are not worth the time to watch them. http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=H.4813800562819290&pid=1.7 Skywalker, I think your absence from here has been detrimental to your psyche of what Bond should look like, and what kind of plot should be utilized properly. It's time for you to return for reprogramming here as the Imperious Curse from Broccoli has befallen you and you are in desperate need of reconditioning. FBF, get the sword of Griffindor ready at once

Perhaps Lord Vader should have no problem in enjoying a Bond movie starring an actor looking much less Bond than DC is.

If he accepted Cr-egg as Bond in any film, he should be fine with another Broccoli recreation as the 7th 007, right FBF?FormerBondFan wrote:Perhaps Lord Vader should have no problem in enjoying a Bond movie starring an actor looking much less Bond than DC is.

Looks don't matter anymore which is why we should stop care about the Bond franchise's well being for good. Let us root for goodies from Pierce and Tim.bjmdds wrote:If he accepted Cr-egg as Bond in any film, he should be fine with another Broccoli recreation as the 7th 007, right FBF?FormerBondFan wrote:Perhaps Lord Vader should have no problem in enjoying a Bond movie starring an actor looking much less Bond than DC is.

Some Craig critics liked it because it had some traditional Bondian elements - such as Jermaine?

Family life is good – thanks for asking!!
Great to see the Hardcore still active and well (Goldeneye/Carl/BJ/FBF/Blowfeld)
With regards to Skyfall I can easily understand it not ticking the boxes for some simply because Craig stars in it. I personally liked it because it felt more ‘Bondian’ and for me the credit should go to Mendes. The direction and character development was far more in tune with what I would consider to be a Bond film rather than the second rate Bourne films that had been trotted out previously.
I felt that Craig delivered a performance reminiscent of the James Bond character and for that I will give him credit. Physically speaking Craig looks awful and un-surprisingly has aged dreadfully. Despite his improved performance he still wouldn’t be my choice to play Bond in the future as I think there are far better suited actors out there that can deliver a performance but look the part also.

If he looks awful how can you watch it and enjoy it? Do you picture a bag over his head and not notice his putrid face tainting the character's suaveness?

You forget about bringing in replacements who look the part. Looks don't matter anymore. Plus, the Bond franchise is not for us anymore. Thanks to SF's nonsensical success and recognition, James Bond can be anymore or anything.Skywalker wrote:Despite his improved performance he still wouldn’t be my choice to play Bond in the future as I think there are far better suited actors out there that can deliver a performance but look the part also.

I don't believe Daniel is a bad actor simply unsuited for who 007 is supposed to be. I can believe director is capable squeezing a decent story out of this era. Almost by the random laws of the universe they have to miraculously hit some of the more traditional targets. Almost certainly this is a fluke as I doubt Mendes has the ability to repeat the performance with the tools at his disposal.

I take skywalkers point. Plenty if movies where the casting is off to awful yet the movie is able to play to those weaknesses successfully.bjmdds wrote:Jaws was a villain and not supposed to look suave and handsome. I was reluctant to watch it Blowfeld for the same reasoning as your good self. Casino Royale was barely watchable and QOS was nothing short of a disaster. Those 2 films enhanced Craig’s ‘short’ comings.Blowfeld wrote:My friends say something similar. Skyfall is easily the best of the 3 and whilst I would prefer someone else to be in the lead role, I thought Craig did well.

Re: It's took a while...
All 3 Cr-egg Bond films are horrible. There is no middle ground with me in regards to him. His very presence on camera to look at is insulting to viewers, except in a role like Renfield from Dracula, which would suit him perfectly. As Bond, he in unwatchable.

it was the best of his three reboots. Each film is a reboot of the previous, each time EON asks us to accept this is how "Bond became Bond"Skywalker wrote:Out of the 3 films Craig has done, which would you rank as the best and why?bjmdds wrote:Jaws was a villain and not supposed to look suave and handsome.
