Skyfall at the US box office.
Saw that Sweeney reported UK box office news, so here's one for the US.
It just broke the $300 million barrier: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa ... bond23.htm
And for adjusted in the US, that places SF at #3 behind GF and TB: http://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchises ... esbond.htm

Re: Skyfall at the US box office.
That was as of Friday. The site will have an update today with estimated U.S. ticket sales for the Jan. 18-20 weekend. I'm wondering if today's update might also have the China opening factored in.stockslivevan wrote:Saw that Sweeney reported UK box office news, so here's one for the US.

So Craig is now officially the most popular Bond in the US since Connery. Who would have thought it.

Send in ethnic actors as Bond for all I care. The classic tall and dark-haired Bond is no longer relevant, not at this current state of the franchise.bjmdds wrote:
Forget James Bond. Instead, watch Doctor Who.

Maybe. I was sort of surprised when it got stuck just shy.Napoleon Solo wrote:That was as of Friday. The site will have an update today with estimated U.S. ticket sales for the Jan. 18-20 weekend. Re: Skyfall at the US box office.
I'm not sure BO reflects popularity of a whole population. The Sweeney wrote:So Craig is now officially the most popular Bond in the US since Connery. Who would have thought it.
Every Bond except for Dalton and Lazenby had success comparable to Connery's at some point.
But what Connery did in the 60s has never been equaled, Connery did the equivalent of $600 million in the US alone that is bigger than most of the us blockbusters ever get. So he is half as popular as Connery, yippie !
Brosnan got something like 28 million in the US, not $300 million adjusted but not that far off and given the IMAX and other factor it's probably not a record breaker for attendance either.

Re: Skyfall at the US box office.
We are all agreed that Skyfall was awful ( ), so I wonder why it has done well? Is it because it is the first Bond for four years? Or that everyone loves the new type of "Bond"? Or would any Bond film released have done well?
Bring back Bond!
Re: Skyfall at the US box office.
Sadly, the trend in Hollywood movies these days is towards pretentiousness and a desire to psychoanayse their heroes. It makes people who have never set foot in an arthouse cinema feel intelligent for watching it.carl stromberg wrote:We are all agreed that Skyfall was awful ( ), so I wonder why it has done well? Were they stupid in the 60's too, flocking in their droves to see TB?Barry Niven wrote:Because the movie-going public at large has always been very, very stupid.

Re: Skyfall at the US box office.
TB has a real James Bond (which was Sean) so the audience weren't stupid in the 60s. But if the audience are still sane today and DC is a real Bond, then a real Bond can be black (no, I'm not being racist) also........or have an eye-patch or a prosthetic arm.The Sweeney wrote:Were they stupid in the 60's too, flocking in their droves to see TB?Barry Niven wrote:Because the movie-going public at large has always been very, very stupid.
I don't know why, but I actually like the idea of a black Bond as long as he is tall and handsome (but not Will Smith handsome).

Re: Skyfall at the US box office.
It's probably true that audiences were less stupid then, since the 60s Bonds were actually good movies and therefore more deserving of being the massive world-beating hits they were.. And sometimes, when the Box Office is anemic like it was for The Man with the Golden Gun, it actually shows that the audience is finally sharp enough to recognize a dud when they see it and react accordingly (which wasn't the case with Diamonds Are Forever, that only got as far as it did because of Connery's Return). But with how these Craig-"Bond" movies are somehow making more (or at least, as much) than the combined take of better, more REAL James Bond movies nowadays, I find it hard to take any of that BO $#!+ seriously.

Re: Skyfall at the US box office.
But audiences aren't that daft, as the worst of Craig's films (QoS) also performed worse at the BO.Barry Niven wrote:It's probably true that audiences were less stupid then, since the 60s Bonds were actually good movies and therefore more deserving of being the massive world-beating hits they were.. And as I am a huge fan of both CR and SF, I don't think audiences are as stupid as you are making out. Had DAD received such a huge global amount, then I would agree with you.
