The official 007 Twitter feed, after 242 Tweets dating back to early November, mentioned Ian Fleming for the first time.

Favorite Bond Movie: My top 7 (or should I say, 007!): FYEO, FRWL, TWINE, NSNA, TLD, GE, OP
But really, any Bond film with Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton or Brosnan is fine.
Favorite Movies: Lawrence of Arabia, Silence of the Lambs, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, My Fair Lady, Beauty and the Beast, In Bruges, Ripley's Game, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Life of Brian, Dirty Harry

Was this a substantive mention of Fleming, or was it meaningless genuflecting, as when EON's movies crassly claim that they they star "Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming's James Bond"?
"For a moment Bond looked up into two glittering eyes behind a narrow black mask. There was an impression of a crag-like face under a hat brim, the collar of a fawn mackintosh." - Ian Fleming, Casino Royale

Yeah the official site has it G_D gave Bond directly to Cubby Broccoli and he gave it to his daughter nobody else was involved. Sean Connery? just some guy they found living in a box outside Edinburgh if Cubby hadn't dressed and fed him every morning well Bond would never of been. All hail the Broccoli's!!

It is, to date, the *only* mention of Fleming, substantive or not. They could have done a "this day in Bond history" tweet about Fleming visiting the Dr. No location shoot (photos exist of Fleming talking to Ursula Andress). They could have done a Tweet about the anniversary of Fleming visiting the Dr. No set in London (photos exist of Fleming talking to Connery at the Dr. No reactor set). They could have done a Tweet about Fleming visiting the From Russia With Love crew in Istanbul (photos exist of Fleming with Pedro Armandariz and Robert Shaw). They could have done a Tweet about Fleming visiting the set of Goldfinger (photos exist of Fleming talking to Connery and Shirley Eaton).

But they didn't, not until today, shortly before noon New York time.

Very good question. They've had ample opportunities. They could have done a "this day in Bond history" Tweet about Fleming visiting the Dr. No location or Dr. No set, Fleming visiting the Istanbul locations of From Russia With Love or chatting with Sean Connery and Shirley Eaton on the Goldfinger set. I suspect that whatever outfit was hired to handle Skyfall's social media efforts simply didn't know who Fleming was. If that's the case, it's sad. Without Fleming, there are no James Bond movies, much less jobs for writers of Twitter posts for #007.

It is odd, because they really put out some cool info even I wasn't aware of. Oh well.

The "This Day In Bond History" Tweets, as nerdy and fanboy baiting as they are, deserve their own Twitter feed.
