Posted: 7:10am on Feb 23, 2012; Modified: 7:14am on Feb 23, 2012

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23, 2012 — /PRNewswire/ -- IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX; TSX: IMX), Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced that the long-awaited next chapter in the famed James Bond franchise, SKYFALL, will be released in IMAX® theatres simultaneously with the film's international release on Oct. 26, and its domestic release on Nov. 9, 2012. This is the first IMAX installment of the iconic Bond film franchise.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20111107/MM01969LOGO )

In SKYFALL, Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

SKYFALL marks the return of Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007, as well as Judi Dench reprising her role as M. The film also stars franchise newcomers Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Naomie Harris. The film is directed by Sam Mendes from a screenplay written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and John Logan. Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are producers.

"SKYFALL will be the cool, must-see event release of the fall, and releasing the film in IMAX only reinforces that," said Rory Bruer, President, Worldwide Distribution for Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution.

"It is fitting that with SKYFALL marking the 50th Anniversary of the James Bond franchise, we celebrate in epic style and what could be more larger-than-life than IMAX joining the festivities," said Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officers of MGM.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this legendary franchise, whose iconic characters and electrifying action will only be amplified in the IMAX format," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "We are excited to rejoin forces with our friends at Sony Pictures Entertainment and MGM and so pleased to work with Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, and Sam Mendes to bring their vision to IMAX and Bond fans around the world."

The IMAX release of SKYFALL will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

I was afraid of this. Now this is what I call a VIRUS. I hope nothing can get any worse than this on our side. I think having 3rd DC VIRUS in IMAX is bad enough already.

Great, now you can see Daniel Craig's wrinkly mug on a huge screen in ultra high definition.

Hopefully, Twilight 4.2 will be in IMAX once it is released on Nov 16, knocking out the 3rd DC VIRUS out of the super big screen.

Actually, I take it back. Having this 3rd virus released this year is bad enough. Let's hope there's enough movies out this year to obliterate this GREAT EVIL film from existence.

Great someone show looks older than my grandpa on a 52' screen

I think the problem will be Slyfall is not shot in imax the most popular movies for imax are one that use imax cameras. Its like converted 3D movies they suck because they never looks as good as movie shot in 3d with 3d cameras.

How much does Imax add to a BO total, HP did like $23 million in Imax opening weekend but as a total its not that big a deal right?

I've been to enough movie websites to know Skyfall.Skynet, spyfall, is not on most people radars. It is still early but half a dozen movies run the explications for 2012. Skyfall I guess will come up after some of the summer bigs are out of the movies and getting ready for home video. Even then I think the run up tot eh hobbit will make people think more about it more than anything else coming up, unless Bond does a Austin powers, dumb and dumber fake trailer.

Pure BS. Twilight's finale will be the must see event of the fall. Once they spin their own product you know they are in big trouble.

The publicity on this film is piss poor, and I feel sorry for the poor sod who has been given the mammoth task of trying to create a buzz with updating the 007 Facebook page regularly with generic shots of a clapperboard.

It's amazing that the members over on MI6 are wetting themselves over these pathetic tease images of a clapperboard. I for one am sick of seeing them, and it adds very little interest in what the movie will be like.

I tried to tell them that on their Facebook page, but as long as there are sycophants drooling over these images ("so mysterious!"), they're gonna keep putting them out.

I was talking to a Bond buddy about this, we disagree on enough to make the conversations interesting, on the official 007 promotion effort we agree it is a sorry affair, looking back Cubby knew how to do it right. The thing is he made it look effortless, it never seemed like a big deal when Cubby ran the show, Princess Diana stopping by the set, all sorts of teasers and interviews with the cast. Interviews on set of the movies, the modern era which includes Roger, Timothy , and Pierce had a much more family feel, back then EON would allow reporters on the set and send the Bonds themselves to events while filming.

I'm doing a news search looks up to find copies of original interviews when covers a new 007's first or last adventures (solely to narrow the scope of the search down some), the comparison from 30 years ago to today is dumbfounding, there were all kinds of interviews and other snippets making the rounds while production was underway, real official news not a lame attempt at mystery with a high school production of Blade Runner background.

I do not know what has happened to 007 production but there have to be some major changes to keep the series going. Right now I guess they can say 'it is working for us' but how much longer before the reporters they are shunning decide to drop it all together or the public doesn't care and want to hear more from Peter Jackson.

I wonder if they are so tight lipped because once their teaser, the twist, part of the treatment Bloody Morgan came up with, the heart of which they are using in SF might turn people off.

Regardless of how the movie turns out it does feel like cheaper affair, even if the budget it twice QOS. The clapperboards we might begin to mimic ourselves ( ;) ).

If this opens in the UK with poor word of mouth, it will be lucky to gross $55 million here opening weekend, which will be dreadful at the ticket prices being what they will be, and then Twilight opening 7 days later.

It has to be worse than QOS. Otherwise, bring in Carrot Top as Bond.
