Is this the end of Daniel Craig as James Bond?

Alternate title: Does this pave the way for Ian Fleming and Cubby's James Bond 007 to return
MGM plans new Bond film - but there’s talk of going back to a more lighthearted 007

News that Spyglass Entertainment is hoping to buy out the bankrupted MGM studio has led to speculation that the much delayed new Bond film can finally be made. But it now looks very possible that we'll see a new actor replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, a newly constituted MGM would hope to have the film - working title Bond 23 - in cinemas by autumn 2012.

With the film's start having been constantly delayed because of the uncertainties at MGM, Craig recently signed up for another franchise - playing the investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its sequels.

Now that Bond 23 is suddenly back on the front burner, Craig is thought to be unlikely to be able to take on the role.

But there's more to it than that, according to a report in the News of the World which claims that producers want to think again about what James Bond should look like in the 2010s.

Insiders say that producers favour going back to a more lighthearted Bond - as both Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan depicted him - rather than the edgy style chosen by Craig in the two most recent films, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

"The plan is to return to the 007 format we all know and love," one unnamed executive was quoted as telling the News of the World. "There will be lots more sexy Bond girls. As for James, we'd like a return to a more suave, charming and lighthearted Bond. We're not sure if Daniel will be available."

Whether Craig would want to be available if that's the way they see it is unlikely.

Critics have generally admired the intelligence Craig has brought to the role - more so in Casino Royale than the less favoured follow-up - and few have missed the corny banter and jokey style of Moore and Brosnan.

A spokesman at Bond producer Barbara Broccoli's London office was unable to comment on the speculation.

And with those words, I shall file the story under "wait to hear it from a more reputable source".

Well this may be a good sign. It was He cant wait to get on with it,
after MGM has a plan its He want to do more art,
to now he is too busy

Bottom line seem to be is if they want a 2012 Bond it will not be craig, and if they wait to make a bond beyond 2012 why bring him back?'

Hell Craig may break the mold and announce he will not be available and out himself. Save th headaches of Barbara calling his unlisted number to force him to do it. I almost forgot about that Barbara wouldn't leave Craig alone until he agreed to do it. its in one of the original interviews.

Craig got what he wanted if he moves on now all the best to him!

Even if he doesn't have a rabbit, Craig should be a little scared of Babs.

Nobody is as married to the idea of Craig as Bond as Babs is. A ton of Daddy issues here maybe destroying his life work is therapeutic for her. Everyone involved from the studio to her half brother Mikey (and others at EON) wouldn't bat an eye recasting Craig. He has his own set of headaches he brought with him starting day one continuing to his demands today. They;ve spent more time and effort trying to overcome his negative spin than they have working on the movies. That's how they settled on this tough guy persona for Craig, a previously wussy guy scared of heights, water, the sun, sex scenes, and stick shift transmissions all in an attempt to dispel all these things collecting into a solid image of him that was beginning to foment in the public's mind. Who would believe this crude Cro-Magnon man depicted wouldn't know how to shift from 1st to 2nd. Even the stunt crew was trotted out to testify Craig didn't perspire as Brozza did, he sweats (yet another unnecessary dig at the previous star and their brand whether they knew it or not). Craig is a real man who's skin happens peel off if he is left in the sun

Connery through Brozza they never had to trot out this tough guy image the actors were able to be though guys on screen without compromising their class. Craig doesn't have any class so they might as well double down on the brute.

Before I get too happy how reputable is this source?, I don't dislike craig as an actor and I can see why he wants to do other stuff and see where he can go with it but he needs to get out of the bond role.

There's still a consenus among a lot of diehards that Craig can, indeed SHOULD be in at least a few more Bond films,no matter how badly he ages. I don't get it,myself.

I think it is tabloid at this point. I do think it will be hard to bring Craig back just because when the hiatus happened people expect a change. Really after Qos a new actor is need to get thing going again. Craig coming back doesn't have the same excitement.

Bond 23 as they were talking about it would have sucked. Beside anybody paying attention sees how incestious the cast could be. Sam Mendes ruined his marriage to Kate Winslet his relationship with Weisz supposedly played a role, Weisz is now split form her whatever and may be having an affair with Craig. Good for soap operas but a bad mix for Bond.

Rachel Weisz Splits with Director Beau, Finds New Love with Bond?

Rachel Weisz has ended her 9-year-relationship with Darren Aronofsky.

Reps for the Academy Award-winning British actress and the American director, who have worked together on many films, issued a joint statement, saying: "Rachel Weisz and Darren Aronofsky have been separated for some months. They remain close friends and are committed to raising their son together in NYC."

Their little boy is 4-year-old Henry.

According to TMZ, Rachel has quietly been seeing James Bond star Daniel Craig for several months. They play husband and wife in the upcoming film Dream House, which filmed in the beginning of the year. Prior to that the British actor temporarily relocated to New York last year to make his Broadway debut opposite Hugh Jackman in A Steady Rain.

If the rumor is true, that spells the end of Daniel's long-term relationship with Satsuki Mitchell.

Hmmm.....Craig seeing Weisz...guess Satsuki is on the outs now. You do have to wonder if the gay rumors had anything to do with it.

I don't think Brosnan was that 'lighthearted' a Bond.

No Brosnan wasn't a lighthearted by any means I don't know what Craig is trying to be but maybe it lacks heart.

EON is the reason why Brosnan is lighthearted.

Brosnan imo struck the right balance for bond, he had some moments that reminded Me of Connerys bond and Moores when they had to be cold and calculated for certain parts, He also had the vulnerability in certain parts of the films but unfortunately a lot of people didn't believe that and think demmi crank's the only one that tried (except he failed being emotional to Me), brosnans bond got put in a torture camp in the beginning of die another day, this bond was tortured a lot but a lot of people seem to forget that, he had to tap into his cold assasin side when electra put a gun to his head, drank for a while to forget what happened in tomorrow never dies after the girl he slept with later dies, got betrayed by an old friend believed dead who then worked for the other side which forced bond to take action (ie for him not england since it became personal).

I still don't get how some people can say Brosnans bond was too lighthearted and to some people a joke when this evidence makes him just as good as Connery and Moore imo, this is what bond should be an evolution of the character the retains similar elements of previous bonds and makes them his own whilst still making it familiar and drawing you in instead of ripping it all apart for an emo angsty bond who seems more vulnerable then a small kid in a playground at school on his first day if he didn't fit in.

I like bond being somewhat vulnerable sometimes but still winning in the end to being good humored, suave and a cool killer but craig made him into a complete sissy in cr imo, I anticipated the car scene and thought now the film's going back on track and where gonna get a good bond car chase scene but that was shortlived.

I personally think a perfect role for craig would be playing the character Steve Myqueen played in the great escape, he's got the attitude, look and he even did the bike stunt in quark.
