Re: Satellite TV
They’ve got some great deals for two year programs, you can also get $55 off the bill when your contract is up by calling in to cancel service.
Only thing I really hate about them is out of the hundred of channels they brag about in every package there are a ton of qvc type channels.
Other complaint is weather related interference but our dish is set up with a strong signal so we don’t get much interference except on the worst weather days, friends of ours have either too many trees or building too close to get a good view of the sky they constantly complain about service.

Re: Satellite TV
Getting the most basic package and still getting quite a few channels I want.Don't really care about the Oprah Winfrey channel so much.I have to have TLC, Discovery, and BBC America though.

Re: Satellite TV
We pay more for the package to get the Smithsonian channel.
We got hbo and showtime for the next few months for free because the dvr we had had a crappy defect where it lost connection to the wireless bridge for the Genie mini several times a week, we’d have to restart the main receiver to get it to work again. Turned out it was a software defect and luckily our tech got permission to replace it with a newer dvr. Att will not give you a upgrade every two years unless the headwear fails. And this is paying for their warranty every month. Technically our old dvr didn’t fail it was a known glitch we got a curtsy replacement and since our dvr model was old they gave us the new model. Which has a great picture we also like the Genie mini too.
We watch science, history and nat geo wild a lot. Smithsonian is really great too it’s one of the channels we had to have

Re: Satellite TV
History has some GREAT stuff on there-I'm a bit of a history buff and I like their shows a lot.
So I've had DirectTV for a little bit(less than a couple of hours)and I'n in love!

Re: Satellite TV
I like direct tv better than uverse or other services like cable.
New dvr the picture was really clear we’ve got a 4k tv but I’m talking about 1080p and it look good on the bedroom tv which is a cheap led I bought when I was on my own years ago.
Oh, the travel Chanel we also watch a lot. Strange how it’s become a kind of cooking channel with so many shows on food.

I can’t remember the name of the show but this guy goes all over looking into legends. It’s on all the time. Expedition unknown or something like that

Re: Satellite TV
In the UK you can get lots of channels the old fashioned way through a tv aerial. But lots of people have satellite.
Did you hear that Sky - the big satellite broadcaster, was bought by US firm Comcast?
We have the Travel Channel and Food Network here - but they are British versions. The Travel Channel has lots of DIY programs on it, with people building huts in the mountains in Alaska etc, and the classic Garage Gold. I like Mysteries at the Museum too.
Food Network has lots of US programs on it such as Diners, Drive Ins and Dives which I think has been running since about 1989.

Re: Satellite TV
The only downside of satellite is that when the weather’s bad it doesn’t work..that used to be the case a few years ago but apparently that’s been improved on..we’ll see when we have our first big storm of the year.
Glad to be rid of cable..it also had its issues-would just freeze up randomly and go out..and getting someone to come out and figure out what’s wrong? Forget about it.

Re: Satellite TV
Mysteries at the museum is a fun click baitish show, by click bait I mean they use easy to answer questions as cliff hangers to keep the audience. Science channel is the absolute worst now with the majority of their new programming falling under click bait, what really pisses me off is they have supposed scientist make crap speculations that would be out of place on ancient aliens.
Oh the host of mysteries at the museum had a earlier show about mysteries of the underworld or something like that. It was a fun show when the host would meet up with local experts around the world and essentially trespass at restricted areas to explore man made underground places that were mostly forgotten about

Re: Satellite TV
We have to get really bad weather to lose satellite but I guess our dishes really well calibrated, we know other people who complain about losing signal on mild days, I know they had install issues because of trees and where the land lord would allow the set up.
What we do is stream content using the on demand or watch something recorded earlier.

Re: Satellite TV
I was talking up Direct TV with my brother(they have Cox and hate it) but they live in the woods, and service would probably be dicey with the weather they get, so no.
