According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony's "Casino Royale" surpassed 2002's "Spider-Man" and now occupies the No. 21 slot on the all-time international boxoffice chart.

Daniel Craig's debut film as James Bond earned an estimated $2.8 million on the weekend from 1,305 screens in 33 markets.

The overseas total for the latest in the 007 series is $420.9 million.

Added to the North American haul of $166,275,268, Casino Royale's worldwide total now stands at $586,854,128 (as of 11th February 2007).

I wonder how much CR would've made without the boycott. I say at least $700 million. From what I hear, the boycott really devastated CR's box office.

EDIT: Wow, pretty mature to change the subject like that. For those wondering, the movie CR actually overtook was Spiderman 2.

I took the liberty of editing my non-biased, news-only thread back, or does a positive news item break house rules around here.....

It's OK by me that CR did big box office. I respect other's opinions -- it's the best Bond movie; it's the best Bond, etc. But my vote just happens to be the opposite -- even if it's a minority view. A question is how many action fans (non-Bond fans who who like action films in general) vs. Bond fans saw CR?
examples
Action fans/non-Bond fans 80%
Bond fans 20%

or
Action fans/non-Bond fans 30%
Bond fans 70%

I suppose a pollster would have fun by classifying the target:
serious fan, semi, casual ....
You move very well for a dead man, Mr Bond
Kill him!
Kill Bond! Now!

Interesting thought. Not sure.

Here's another thought. How many action fans are now Bond fans after seeing CR......

Impossible to tell.

But you can't tell me people weren't impressed with Craig's interpretation of Bond. CR had great word of mouth which was undoubtedly one of the factors that led to its financial success.

I'm not sure that Craig has the cult value to be a "Seagal/Jet Li/Statham etc" action star; and I'm not sure that he has the looks/charm/humour etc to be a James Bond. Imagine my surprise when Casino Royale made $3 billion at the box office.....

This might seem like a strange question but does anyone know if CR has outgrossed Breakdance 2: Electric Boogaloo yet?
