Not sure, I just posted the link as I found it. It looks like some sort of tobacco product. From the comments in the article, it sounds like something associated with, shall we say, the less well-off members of society, and not something that a classy guy like Pierce should be advertising.
Edit: I just looked it up, and as I suspected, it's basically chewing tobacco.

well he advertised Kia too. More people die each year in a Kia than a Aston Martin, (JK)Kristatos wrote:Not sure, I just posted the link as I found it. It looks like some sort of tobacco product. I'm going to say if mr sensitive "i think the next Bond should be a PC choice", he should know it's no good trying to sell tobacco.
But in some ways this is the tobacco nazi police over reacting. There are plenty of places. Where tobacco is important part of the culture, (American Indians for instance) . This could be New Delhi overstepping telling the poorer provinces you can't do this we won't allow it.
Brosnan should have known better, from the wrapping it look Werther's originals so maybe he didn't get it.
But,,, Come on this is obviously a over reaction from people we get their thrill and social media attention from mock outrage. If they really cared about the poor people targeted by this product they would do more for them than talk about helping them.
Besides in the catalogue of poisons the Bond movies and actors sell in conjunction with the movies this is pretty low. Heineken has probably ruined more lives, and the actors and producers cash those checks and nobody calls them out.

I think all tobacco advertising is banned in India. At least that was the impression that I got from the article.

Maybe but the are also using Brosnan and bond to try to generate publicity and outrage.
To me the tone is one the self righteous here take to condemn legal substances and activities.

Re: Pierce's pan masala ad banned in India
My first thought on reading that was "didn't he know what he was advertising?" But according to Wikipedia, pan masala is actually a combination of herbs and spices that is traditionally chewed in India as a breath freshener after a meal. Gutka is the chewing tobacco that is sometimes advertised as pan masala in order to get around the ban on tobacco advertising. The Indian government decided to close that loophole by banning pan masala advertising as well. And that's how a man who lost his first wife to cancer was fooled into advertising a highly carcinogenic substance. It must be like being told you're advertising breath mints that turn out to be Skoal Bandits.FormerBondFan wrote:Pierce realizes that he's been fooled.
