As James Bond, Irish actor Pierce Brosnan buddied up with gun-toting CIA agents and sexy, smoldering vixens.
In real life, though, Brosnan is more into gentle, peaceful whales.
The longtime eco-activist and his wife, Keely, descended upon the swank new Capitol Visitor Center this week to stump for the International Fund for Animal Welfare. The pair cohosted a cocktail event promoting the marine conservation bill sponsored by Rep. Bill Delahunt (D-Mass.) and Del. Eni Faleomavaega (D-American Samoa).
“Hardball” host Chris Matthews emceed the event, and we caught him making small talk with Brosnan about an upcoming golf trip.
Also in attendance? Hot Croatian “ER” doc Goran Visnjic — and his perfectly coiffed hair.
The bill’s sponsors wore their support of the bill on their sleeves — make that their necks. IFAW President Fred O’Regan sported a tie printed with whale tails, and Delahunt’s was covered in mini-shapes of Nantucket Island, part of his home district. (For the record, Brosnan looked debonair in a velvet blazer.)
Earlier Tuesday, Brosnan and the goodwill group met with White House and State Department reps and even snagged a tour of the West Wing. The corporate average fuel economy standard hullabaloo prevented their meeting with Obama, but Brosnan said they’ll meet with Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and other legislators this week to boost the bill, which would promote international conservation efforts and reduce commercial whaling.
No doubt Brosnan is sticking to the traditional way of promoting his cause — lobbying lawmakers and using his star power to draw attention to the whales’ plight.
That’s all well and good, Pierce, but what would James Bond do?
His simple response: “You’ll have to ask Daniel Craig.”

Interesting that Visnjic was there, given that he was a rumored replacement for teh Broz.

Good for Pierce. Whaling is a barbaric activity.

Wonder if it was narrating Blue Planet: Seas of Life that alerted him to the plight of the whales?

Pierce has always been an activist. He insisted the premier of GoldenEye be moved to support Greenpeace.

By BJ, most likely. I can already see it.
"He's obviously just doing it for publicity, shouldn't he get it by now that no one likes him at all? His films were all flops so doing something like that isn't going to change anyone's opinion of him! Blah blah blah, Craig molested me."

You two should start saving for a Save the Craig campaign.

Agreed. I wouldn't goof on Craig if he was involved with a charity. When he's in popsicle form, or doing a play on Broadway with Hugh Jackman, that's another story!Dr. No wrote:you are way out of line on this IMHO.The Sweeney wrote:I bet if Craig was an activist, he would be ridiculed on here for doing so.....

Re: James Bond wants you to save the whales
Ok, maybe it was a bit out of order, but when you read some of the slanderous comments from certain members on here towards Craig, outside of his work as Bond, then my comment is actually not that far from the truth. There should be no sudden touch of the moral high ground now on here, when you see some of the nastiness on this site towards another human being.Dr. No wrote:you are way out of line on this IMHO.The Sweeney wrote:I bet if Craig was an activist, he would be ridiculed on here for doing so.....

They had to scramble to find Craig a pet cause in the weeks before CR. The man has no interest in anything that takes effort. He ought to be ridiculed for being such a lazy sod.
Brozza at least put himself out their and it was risky move to boycott the French Premiere with his whole career on the line with the success or failure of GE.

I dunno. Fleming was notorious for being a lazy sod too, and we like him OK.Mazer Rackham wrote:They had to scramble to find Craig a pet cause in the weeks before CR. The man has no interest in anything that takes effort. He ought to be ridiculed for being such a lazy sod.

Nah, Fleming was a sod who lived too much
Half of Craig's complaints in interviews are over work or things that require work. Fleming kept busy and stayed involved. Maybe not with charities, it wasn't as popular then to advertise ones involvement.
In his down time he inspired the what would become the CIA. Talked with his good friend Leiter at the CIA about how to deal with Castro, his ideas were seriously considered. He tired to make difference in his own way and didn't outright shun the idea of doing something for nothing.

I'm sure DC does stuff for charity anyway. He did Comic Relief a few years ago.
