The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I have recently joined this website and I am very glad that there now is an available forum section on this website. To date, MI6 and Commanderbond.net have been the major players in the discussion of Daniel Craig's first outing as James Bond in Casino Royale. The problem with the other forum sites has been whenever a member with contrary views to either Craig or CR has posted their opinions, they are immediately attacked, like a swarm of bees, ridiculed, mocked, cursed at, defamed, and belittled by the masses of pro-Craig/CR members. Those two other sites are overwhelmingly in favor of the direction that Eon has taken with the Bond franchise. The minority of members in both of those sites have found it hard to debate fairly and intelligently any counter reviews or beliefs to Casino Royale. Both sites have there pitbull attack dogs ready to go whenever someone even hints that CR with DC is no longer a Bond film, no longer part of the historic franchise, and no longer recognizable as what it should be. CR was more successful at the international box office than it was in the USA. I hope this particular forum site can grow with members who in a cordial manner can openly debate various dissenting opinions of what Daniel Craig has done to the Bond franchise. By the time the next Bond film comes out, in November 2008, I hope this forum site has gathered a sizable amount of new members whose contrary opinions are appreciated, not attacked.

Well, well, well, hello good buddy Willy, glad to see you joined here. You may not like a lot of what will be discussed here but I am sure this thread will not be locked as MI6 enjoyed doing whenever a topic debating Craig got a little intense. The Sweeney wrote:Welcome bj. Skywalker, we must continue to offer alternatives to the path EON has taken and I look forward to your comments as an educated Bond observer.Skywalker wrote:You seem like a well educated guy Bj. Well well well BJ. Have you left MI6 for good? I know you'd lose your temper over there for not comprehending others objective opinions so I hope you show some sanity and intelligence here. DCNB seems to show signs of respect and intelligence, let’s hope you learn from them.
Besides that, welcome aboard!

Glad to be aboard and thanks for the kind welcome. I was on the MI 6 website since August 2005. It got to the the point that whenever really good debate to the contrary of what Eon was doing with the Bond franchise, that one realized that debate was not what was desired there, but rather confrontation. Some really intelligent Bond officienados were driven out, and some wound up at the Commanderbond.net website. Similar goings on there too, with many MI6 members crossing over to it as well. It is quite refreshing to see a forum site such as this that has not given up on the traditional concept of what a Bond movie should look like, not this overhyped avant-garde curiosity driven Casino Royale. Between now and November 2008 it would be nice to see this forum site increase in popularity as a true alternative to the others. Hopefully, we will see that to fruition.ID wrote:Welcome aboard BJ.

I never once, not once, lost my temper, even when attacked for contrary views to Craig as Bond. That is not my style. There are PLENTY of those regulars on MI6, for they have over 9700 registered members, who relish attacking contrary views. That is not debate and locking threads that the moderstors personally do not like is ridiculous, and that happened two times too many for me. I personally think Craig was, is, and will be, a horrible James Bond;he may do interesting Bourne-like, Bauer themed spy films for Eon, but these will never be Bond films to me.stockslivevan wrote:Well well well BJ. Where does EON take Craig's Bond now?
Each week in the USA terrorist themed 24, with Craig's alter ego Jack Bauer running wild, has finished in third place in it's time slot. This was not the case in it's prior years and it seems the public 'may' be tiring of these storylines built on violence and terrorism. If so, how long can Eon continue their storyline with Craig at the helm, given his Bond is defined by that very same plot? Craig's acting in CR was nothing spectacular. The theme song was nothing spectacular. The love story was nothing new. Did CR overachieve at the box office, was it an aberration of success, and will Bond 22 surpass CR?

I think bj, that 22 will surpass CR at the BO. Just look at how well it is doing on DVD in the US alone.bjmdds wrote:Each week in the USA terrorist themed 24, with Craig's alter ego Jack Bauer running wild, has finished in third place in it's time slot. With regards the terrorism storyline, you keep bringing this up (on Mi6) but that only really is background to the main storyline in CR - which is Bond beating Le Chiffre at cards, falling in love with Vesper, and being betrayed. The Fleming SMERSH/KGB angle has been replaced/updated to modern times, which focus more on terrorism because it is a real threat, but I would hardly say this was the main essence of CR.
The main essence of CR was Fleming's novel, which remains in tact for the majority of the film.
As for Craig's acting, the BAFTA's obviously wouldn't agree with you, nor would the critics in general.....
